Review: My husband and I have been in Munich for 3 days and this is by far the best meal we have had. We had what I think was the "grill plate" another reviewer mentioned, with 3 different fake meats (I think 2 tofu-based and 1-wheat meat) which came with a large, tasty salad and french fries. We also had the currywurst with fries. These came with 3 sauces- ketchup, tzaziki, and a sweet spicy sauce. We loved everything, even though the currywurst and one of the fake meats were a bit salty.
We also had some beer on tap and a Harvey Wallbanger- both were yummy. The server was friendly and chatted with us a bit in English, and answered all our questions. However, he was the only server/bartender in the whole place, so he could get a little busy. They do serve a Vegan White Russian, but were out of the vegan cream that day (a Monday) so I couldn't get one.
It is a very bar-like atmosphere, but the large tables make it a little more restaurant-like. They play classic rock and have rock and punk posters on the wall. The place is very clean and has a pleasant atmosphere- it isn't an agro vibe at all, but a friendly, low key kind of feel.
We had a great dining experience all around and will definitely be back before we leave Munich. the one big drawback- they appear to open only for dinner (I believe at 5pm) and are closed Sundays. Also, it would be nice to get a side of veggies instead of french fries because when you'r ein Germany you already eat a lot of fried potatoes if you're veg*n.
Pros: food * drinks * atmosphere/service
Cons: only open for dinner * closed Sunday * only french fries for sides |

• Hi Acidkitty, I enjoyed reading your review. The vegetarian equivalents of famous German dishes sound pretty good to me.. response by Jeffrey

Review: My partner and I went to Kopfeck recently on our first trip to Munich. As others have noted, the place looks and feels very much like a bar, rather than a restaurant, but don't be put off by that. The service was great; the place was both spotless and nonsmoking; and the young staff were quite friendly even to old folks like us (we're in our 40s).
And the food from the all-vegetarian menu was wonderful! In particular, they do great things with meat substitutes at Kopfeck. We had a fake meat "grill plate" that was delicious and huge, along with salad, soup, and several drinks, and our total bill was about 30 Euro.
As a final note, the location is great too -- central enough but relatively quiet. Kopfeck is an easy walk from the Viktualienmarkt.
Pros: meat substitutes * good value * central location
Cons: * * |

Review: This place was sick. No skimping on the portions, each meal is enough to take a doggy bag home, the menu has a wide variety of dishes. It has the best vibe you could ever want for a relaxed hangout place, relaxed and calm ambience with a lot of really good people to meet and hang out with. The Kopfeck is more than just a place to get a good meal it's the best hangout in Munich.
Pros: Huge meals. * Good atmosphere. * Clean, relaxed, friendly, trustworthy.
Cons: Wish * I'd found it * ealier. |

Review: I WISH we had a place as cool as this back in Los Angeles. You can get a Vegan White Russian (but request it in a cup instead of a martini glass!) The Vegan Burger is huge and amazing, its some kind of grain combo that is full of flavor & comes with a nice salad and tons of fries. I think 90% of the menu is vegan, the word is everywhere. Go for the local draft beer, its amazing! They have Vegan Gyros / Chili / Vegan Steak / Soup / Weekly specials, really a fantastic selection. Coolest place for late night eats in Munich by far! I believe the kitchen shuts down at 11 but check their site with Google Translate to be certain of times, you can also see the menu there, too! Friendly English speaking bar tender, too. Just go in and pick a good table and order a beer and peruse the menu and I'm sure you'll be happy with everything!
Pros: music * vegan burger * atmosphere / bar
Cons: * * |

Review: We were pretty excited about this place but arrived at a bar-- cigarette machine at the front door, dark inside, low tables, etc. Could be good food, but we were looking for a restaurant. People seemed nice, but ambience was, well, it's a bar.
Hate to give it a rating, since we didn't try the food, but wish that we had known more about the atmosphere before going.

Review: The first thing that struck me about this restaurant was how extensive the menu was. The food part of the menu was only one page long - but that seems to be about a page longer than most other vegetarian or vegan offerings in Germany. The items that were vegan were clearly marked as such.
I had the vegan gyro. It was GREAT: perfectly seasoned, decently portioned (both rare things for Germany,) and it came with a colourful side salad.
The person I was with had the (vegan,) veggie burger. It was almost too big of a portion, but I am told it tasted very good.
The service was pleasant and quick and the restaurant APPEARED to be clean.
At the time I was there, the person I was with and I were the only customers in the restaurant. It was about 5:30 - 6:00 p.m or so and, even though the restaurant was empty then, there were signs on most other tables indicating that they were reserved for later in the evening.
Pros: Wheat beer available. * Properly seasoned/spiced food. * Clearly indicated vegan offerings.
Cons: * * |

Review: I went to Kopfeck for the two days I was in Munich. It was really great food, along with a social, hip atmosphere.
The first time I had an amazing soup (that could have stood on its own), along with the best vegan burger I have ever had (I don't know how they did it). The portions where fairly large, by european standards (I come from Portland, where vegan food portions are pretty huge). I wouldn't suggest ordering two things, if you aren't planning on taking some home.
On the second day, I tried a stir-fry with tofu. Though not as good as my veganburger, it was a perfect companion to the local beer on tap.
If you are ever in Munich, go here.
Pros: easy walk from the metro * social, hip atmosphere * friendly staff
Cons: * * |

Review: This place was packed on the last Sunday in October 2008, mainly with a young vibrant and friendly crowd. The food was simply superb, I'd say gourmet pub grub, rather like UK gastro pubs. My seitan steak and chips was amazing and the pasta dish my dining partner had was perfect. Washed down with Munich bier, this was a super experience. Don't expect a quiet dining event, be prepared for lots of music, chat and smoke. A very arty and avant garde establishment
Pros: great crowd * super food * beer
Cons: smokey at night * * |

Review: I like this place! I even went during the game between Germany and Turkey so things were hot and noisy and crazy but it was still a good experience. The portions are good for what you pay, too... I couldn't force myself to finish my ratatouille with seitan steak even though it was, and remains, the best vegan food I've tasted in Europe.
Pros: delicious food * good value * menu labels vegan dishes
Cons: * * |

Review: This bar offers an all vegetarian menu and most dishes are also available as vegan version or 100% vegan anyway. Great place to have some good food, listen to music and stay for a couple of drinks afterwards. Kopfeck has an alternative feel which is also reflected in the music. Open Mo-Thu + Sun: 11:00 to 01:00am, Fr + Sa: 11:00 bis 03:00am. Call to check food serving times.
Pros: Good selection of food and drinks * Friendly staff * Independent Business
Cons: * * |
