Review: After reading the previous reviews I had to check out this location for myself- and was pleasantly surprised. Very stylish, comfortable restaurant with club-like atmosphere. Lots of space. And you donīt have to wait in line for an hour or so to be seated at rush hour (as it is not as overrun as "Vegetarian Lifestyle"- yet). It is very quiet and has a relaxing atmosphere. While you sit on the sofa-like furniture waiting for your meal, you have an excellent view on Huaihai Lu. However, they are really fast at serving the meal. Food is delicious and spicy (depending on what you order). Staff is very friendly and some speak English. Prices are reasonable. I prefer it to "Vegetarian Lifestyle"...
Pros: Nice Atmosphere * Excellent Food * Good Value
Cons: * * |

Review: It was the second restaurant we went to. The interiour design is a bit too much with mostly black, mirrors and red velvety seats. Good for a bar or club, but not for a restaurant. Staff was abit unfriendly and it took some time to get their attention. Food was average and a bit expensive for what you get. Very bland. But their choice of herbal tea, tea and dessert is huge. And you will love the vegan cakes and pastries.
Pros: Dessert * Tea selection *
Cons: Unfriendly staff * Interior * Atmosphere a bit cold |

Review: We've been here a few times now and really enjoyed it. This location is much nicer than their spot in Super Brand Mall in Pudong. The seating is in plush red booths and the atmosphere is almost club-like with black mirrored ceilings, but subdued. The staff here is very attentive and friendly and there are some nice city views.
Food-wise, everything looks good. We haven't tried the more expensive menu items, yet, but everything we have tried is nice (except for the sesame phoenix mentioned in the other locations' review). In particular, the tofu in a clay pot is really tasty and cheap. The beggar's chicken itself is really good, but there's not much of it--most of the dish is boiled peanuts with a few chestnuts. The celery with lily bulb and the green beans with chili on rice cakes are nice veggie dishes. The dumplings are good as are the spinach noodles.
One word about those--they really aren't like the picture which shows green noodles and some dipping sauce. They come out that way, but then the server will pour a cup of soup with diced mock meat and veg on top, then mix it up for you and add some chili and soy sauce if you like. Much more filling than we thought it would be and only 18 kuai.
We've only tired the red bean paste stuffed sesame balls for dessert which are nice. They have a large selection of beautiful cakes, but I haven't yet asked if they are vegan. It seems that while there is no egg used here, they might use dairy. (The menu only says "no meat, fish, or egg".)
Pros: Nice upscale atmosphere * Friendly service * Good food
Cons: Food is pretty oily * Mostly mock meats--not much plain veg * |

Review: Decor: Decidedly Chinese - lots of crazy colours and round seats. There is good seating by the window - especially when the construction site across the street has the day off.
Staff: Friendly and do their best to understand my terrible garbling Chinese. The odd member of staff speaks a bit of English. They are very good!
Food: Tricky bit. Presentation is decent and food is received pretty quick. The menu is in Chinese and English and the food is styled in quite a shanghainese style. Lots of oil and salt. Overall it is worth a try and I have been a few times - its an easy one and the staff are good which makes all the difference. DUMPLING TEST: 3.5 OF 5
Pros: Friendly staff * relatively quick * good portions
Cons: Oily * Salty * |
