Review: Horrible customer service! Beware if something is wrong with the food- which is steadily becoming worst - they will treat you like trash on the street if you tell them. I was a loyal supporter of this place(& told all my friends to be also) until they fired the chef who started the good reputation (they used to have). Now, the owners/novice,wanna-be chefs make the terrible food, overcharge and treat loyal customers like crap.
Pros: * *
Cons: bad vibes * fake rastas * |

Review: There are several choices (all vegan) hot and ready to serve. I took the small plate option where you pick three things. They also had a carrot/ginger cake that was very good! I took my food to the airport for later, and even after two hours it was very good. The barbque tofu was a little chewy, but it was great flavor and kinda nice to eat a solid piece of tofu. The chickun curry was the best I have had and the texture was very close to real chicken. The collard greens were very good as well, and the women at the counter was very helpful and friendly.
Pros: all vegan * hot and ready * good portion for price
Cons: sketchy area * cafeteria style * |

Review: My husband took me out on a surprise date Friday night, and I was surprised when we headed straight to downtown Atlanta because there's not usually much there for us, as vegetarians. Even though I have worked downtown all my life, when we parked on a sketchy looking street, I must admit I was a bit nervous.
But what a delicious adventure! And no trouble whatsoever, so don't let the rundown street scare you off.
Though this place is usually cafeteria style, the lunch counter had already been packed up for the day, so the waitress recited a list of what they had left. I thought all the dishes sounded great, but the last three sounded perfect... kale salad, bbq tofu and rice & peas.
They brought me more food than I could eat in two meals, though I did my best because it was hard to stop. The kale salad was outstanding- subtle flavors with fresh avocado.
The other two dishes were my favorite kind of food... soul-satisfying, the type that comes out of Crescent Dragonwagon's cookbook The Passionate Vegetarian.
I'm already trying to figure out where I could park if I wanted to run over there for lunch at least once, maybe twice a week!
I thought I should have paid more for the portions we got!
Pros: soul-satisfying food * relaxed atmosphere * unbeatable prices
Cons: neighborhood * * |

• I totally agree that I should have paid more for the portion size. I felt guilty it was so cheap :). response by kennyp353

Review: All the reviews below are correct. It's a small cafeteria with a selection of premade foods dished out in enormous portions for $8. Food quality is very high, about as good as it gets for non-freshly-made. The strawberry lemonade was divine. The rastafarians that run it are genuinely lovely, particularly the guy from Manchester.
A five-minute walk from Five Points marta station and the underground mall, but the neighbourhood gets a bit sketchy in the last block or so - nothing insurmountable, just keep your wits about you.
Pros: good food * great staff * amazing lemonade
Cons: sketchy neighbourhood * * |

Review: Babatande (I apologize for any misspelling) and his lovely employees are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I visited Atlanta for three days and ate at Calabash twice. Their barbecue tofu is the best I've had, and their lasagna is very good. The most impressive part of the meal, however, was the live strawberry pie. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a wonderful meal and a great overall experience.
Pros: Good portions * Very affordable * Free wifi
Cons: * * |

Review: I've intended to try Calabash since I first heard of it, but it's not on the usual route I take during my lunch walk. I normally make my own lunch, but I occasionally want to eat out, and pickings are very sparse for a vegan downtown.
This afternoon I walked over to Calabash, and I'm really glad I did. First, it's nice to be able to make the assumption that the food is vegan without interrogating the staff ("Are you SURE this sauce doesn't have any milk in it???").
But most of all the food was delicious. I had soyfish, mac- no cheese, and mixed vegetables with
a ginger beer. I intend to go back once a week until I've tried everything on their menu.
Pros: great food * friendly *
Cons: they need to update the chalkboard menu * * |

Review: We tried this on our trip to Atlanta, based on the strength of the review below, and I have to agree. Really tasty and very inexpensive food. I had an $8 plate which allows you to choose 4 dishes and the plate was heaping with delicious food, curried tofu & potato, vegetables, soy fish, etc. Really nicely spiced and hearty. Friendly service, very casual atmosphere with wood tables painted red. Not fancy looking, but great food.
Pros: delicious * inexpensive * creative food
Cons: * * |

Review: I was very pleased to try a new vegan restaurant in Atlanta. Calabash, although newly opened is offering a delicious take on vegan dining. The food is colorful, flavorful and most definently gets one full. I love the patties and the soups. Excellent!! The escovitch soy fish and even mock duck are delectable and very flavorful, not bland at all. I do also appreciate the new selections of kale salad, fresh sorrel, and even live strawberry pie! I hear the chefs formally owned "Iternal Life" a live restaurant that used to be near downtown. All in all, I was pleased with the service, the food, and the atmoshere. Move over bland vegetarian dishes, The seasonings at Calabash are second to none!! Good Value as well. So much food for so little.
Pros: Delicious food * Super healthy * Great helpings
Cons: None at this time * * |
