Review: I really hate that my first review is going to be less than positive because I've been to SO many great vegan restaurants because of Happy Cow (thank you!). Last night...well, I let's just say my dinner date and I didn't finish off our plates, and that NEVER happens.
I should have known something was wrong...the table beside us all bolted rather quickly in seemingly sour moods and with plates only half finished. While waiting for our food the waitress came by and apologized or said our food was on it's way twice (I really wasn't concerned).
When our food arrived, the Vegan Curry Chicken I ordered was basically steamed veggies and some sort of mock meat that looked like a meat ball and tasted like a sponge filled with water when you bit in to it. I figured they forgot the curry and when we asked the waitress said to us as if we were idiots, "it's cooked in curry". I looked down, very confused. I was obviously eating steamed vegetables and some sort of water filled faux meat. my (very nice) date asked if we could have a side of the curry sauce then (did I mention I'd been here before and ordered the same thing and it was smothered in curry? Anyway...) She came back and told us it was "made to order". i couldn't help but think "Well, that's why I ordered it".
My date's meal was even worse than mine and I felt really bad watching someone who LOVES food, has a HUGE appetite and generally finishes off his plated AND everyone's around him when dining out, push his food around until we could get the hell out of there.
Not stoked!
Pros: Interior is very warm * Small and cozy * They had good food one time I went there
Cons: Service staff has lots of attitude * Food taste like water-filled sponges * If they forget to put on curry, too bad! |

Review: JERF TOFU!! Are you kidding me? I had not had Jerk anything since I became Vegan. When I saw that on the menu during my 1st visit I HAD to try it. It was, and still is, fantastic. Combine that with the vegan peas & rice, festival bread, plantains, picka-pepper sauce and I was in Heaven. I have also had the Ital stew which is quite good but the Jerk Tofu is one to get (which I now do every time). The staff is very friendly and the pace is casual so no rush, no problem. Restaurant is not Vegan but they clearly understand the needs of Vegan diners and food is prepared in a Vegan manner. No mixed grilled, no shared utensils, etc. Located in small strip mall with limited parking. In closing, if you are feeling like some Vegan Jamaican food this place is not to be missed. Bring your non-vegan friends and support this hidden gem in Studio City. I'd give it a 5 if HappyCow allowed it.
Pros: Food * Staff *
Cons: * * |

Review: Some dishes are a little pricey, but the portions are big without being huge and the food tastes great. Nice quiet place with cute decorations and friendly people. We waited a little while for our food. Still, it was well worth the wait. I will definately go again.
Pros: Veggie and meat dishes so all will be ha * Great flavors * Good portions
Cons: Slow * Just a tad pricey * |
