Review: I did not have a good experience here... it is very popular somehow, though the food takes over an hour to be delivered and you must go to the bar and order - even though it looks like there is table service. I think they are trying to get by with only 2 people running this place and their customers are suffering for it. Hire some more people HANS! The food was artfully presented.. though my pasta did not come with any bread and it was listed as pesto - yet no basil was used. The staff (barman and cook) are both friendly and personable. Someone said the music was too loud for them in an earlier review and I guess they took that to heart, b/c I could barely hear the music. I was disappointed that they didn't have any local German wines - only Spanish and Italian - which they weren't sure were vegan. (Sometimes Spanish wine makers use bulls blood as their fining agent - YUCK!). I would give this place another try, but like I said -- hire some more people.. You are obviously too popular to run with only 2 staff members.
Pros: vegan food * hip atmosphere * friendly staff
Cons: non-vegan alcohol * short tables * long wait |

Review: I've eaten at Hanswurst several times and loved it most of the time. The food is always fresh and seasonal and though not too cheap absolutely ok for the quality you get - even though the portions sometimes aren't very big. The sandwich didn't fill me up at all for instance. The soups on the other hand have always been well enough.
What I don't understand is why they say that everything on the menu is organic and fair trade but then there's things like beer or coke which aren't.
Sometimes, when the place is crowded, it takes them quite a while to serve everyone. I also occasionally find the music too loud and distracting.
Anyway: Hanswurst is well worth a visit (especially the pizza!) and I truly recommend it to anyone visiting Berlin.
Pros: excellent food * friendly staff * nice interior
Cons: noisy * small portions * |

Review: I absolutely loved this place.
It was cosy with a nice atmosphere and a very friendly waiter.
My friend and I both had a wonderfully creamy risotto that had a strong taste of cheese. It was served with tofu and rocket salad on top and vegetables and a youghurt dressing around. Beautifully arranged and very tasty.
We also bought two cakes for dessert and especially one of them was really good.
I can only recommend this place!
Pros: excellent food * friendly staff * cosy

Review: I went here for the self serve buffet brunch today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was great, the atmo lovely, the waitress very helpful. Altogether, no complaints at all.
If travelling via Ebderswalder U-bahn station, when you come out station turn right on to Danziger Str. From Danziger Str take the 3rd turning on the left and the cafe is on the right hand side of the street.
Pros: Vegan veggie * Tasty food * Nice atmo

Review: We went for a friend's birthday do with around 30 people. Needless to say, he gave them 3 weeks warning and booked the place, so I don't understand how they'd end up with one barman, come waiter and one chef. We turned up at 7 PM and by around 8 they had run out of wheat beer (!!). To start with, they boast about being organic but no organic wheat beer on the menu and that's the EASY part of running a place. As for the food, by the chef's request, we were supposed to order from a choice of 3 pasta dishes to make it easier on him but still, people who ordered their meal around 7.30 received it around 9.30/10 and people who ordered around 8.30 got theirs around 11. We've tried some of the starters friends ordered, while the pesto and other sauces tasted yummy, the while bread came, with what we later determined must have been margarine, as both of us came out with belly aches ... well that's because we only eat food and I don't call margarine that, vegan or no (could have used olive ...cheapskates). At that point, we decided not to have food there, so I can't talk about the quality at all but seeing the people at Hans Wurst obviously don't care about their customers (such as getting enough drinks in, let alone providing an extra chef and / or bar person) it was probably a wise choice. We were warned though, I guess, considering that their 'mission statement' on their menus mentions that customers aren't kings ... :p ... Certainly no points for effort and also no points for running out of drinks ...
Pros: None that I could see, being vegan maybe * *
Cons: Ran out of drinks * 2 staff (incl. chef) for a booking of 30 * no organic wheatbeer |

• ok, i guess this review sounds a little unfair.
have to admit the evening didn't work out at all. but also it was due to the fact that double amount of people showed up as we were told before. 30 or even more instead of 15. i rechecked the confirmation mail and it says 15. surely would have been not such a disaster if we would have known before. sorry but if you show up with double amount of people, especially when it comes to this sort of big amounts, no wonder all goes crazy. that's not our fault.
we also never put margarine on bread. i totally don't get the point here. talking about belly ache out of this sort of assumtion sounds strange in my ears. you really want to revile us here. better not talk about the quality of our food if you haven't even recieved a dish.
we do care about customers. maybe you shouldn't pick.... response by hans wurst

Review: went back there for the third time now...
had wonderful Tagliatelle with red Pesto. very tasty and cooked just right (I'm Italian, so I know how it should be)
the soup was delicious
before dinner there was a dj spinning some nice acoustic indie music
after dinner there was also an artist playing in the background. very nice indeed.
Hans Wurst is a good place for a nice informal lunch/dinner for people who also enjoy warm acoustic music in the background
definitely for stylish people with refined tastes, mostly of the indie-diy persuasion (I didn't want to say \"hipsters\", because it's more educated and sophisticated than that). very cool indeed.
highly recommended

Review: Did I miss something? Having visited Hans Wurst Cafe in Berlin last wednesday, 5th August. I'm a bit confused. Was this the same cafe other reviewers have eaten in?
I spent weeks searching guides to find vegetarian restaurants in Berlin. And came across this cafe. With a few exceptions this seemed like a good place to eat.
Whether my husband and I caught them on an off day I don't know. We arrived there about 3.45pm. There was only two other customers in there. I just thought that maybe it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner. Greeted by the barman who wasn't unpleasant but appeared to be elsewhere. We both ordered the tofu burgar with potato wedges. This didn't take long, approximately ten minutes. When the meal arrived it was poorly presented. A burgar with gherkins and uncopious amount of mayonaise and tomatoe sauce with few lettuce leaves. Some of the potato wedges looked green. Admittingly that could have been my imagination. Anyway some of these were hard. Unfortunately due to the fact that the burgar was smothered in sauces it was impossible to say if it tasted ok. It was extremely disappointing. After reading another review I think there was another member of staff sitting outside talking. I don't know if it was her or the barman who prepared the meal. I think I did hear the potatoes getting chopped. So I suppose one could say that at least part of the meal was freshly prepared. However all I can say is on this occasion the food wasn't very good. And at a cost of €5.40 there needs to be a vast improvement on the food and and to an extent the staff ( who as I would like to point out again were not rude just pre-occupied). Perhaps it's time the chef/cook went on a refresher course on how to cook reasonable food. Either that or sack him! Because of our experience I'm not sure if I would reccommend this cafe to others. May be it was just an off day.
Pros: Vegan * *
Cons: poor and badly presented food * staff need improvement * |

Review: hans wurst was great! the food was quite elegantly presented. unfortunately i felt it was a bit too pricey, and the seitan steak dish only came with two small seitan pieces, but the sauce it was in (with capers and potatoes and mushrooms) was sooo good, one of the best vegan sauces ive had. free wifi was great. there was not a huge selection of food, but i think i would come back again if i had a bit more money to work with

Review: I went to Hans Wurst with three others (not all veggie/vegan) on a Saturday night with no reservation. As it turned out only two other tables were occupied (but apparently Friday night was packed). The menu was a little limited to main dishes only but as all were vegan, I personally still had more choices than usually available to me. I chose seitan medaillons with rocket/potatoe mash and a tomato based soup as did one of my friends. We also ordered a smoked tofu dish that came with rice and a capers/mustard and mushroom sauce as well as a burger with potatoe wedges. While the potatoe wedges and the burger were disappointing, the smoked tofu and in particular the seitan medaillon dishes were delicious. Portions were fine, but I could have fitted a desert and was a little disappointed there were none. We stayed for a couple of drinks after dinner, as the place is inviting you to come in or stay not just for food but eventually left to go to a livelier place. Prices were inexpensive but than again, there are some even more inexpensive café/restaurants in Berlin. I would definitely go again and am particularly interested to trial their breakfast/brunch menu.
Pros: Relaxed atmosphere * 100% vegan and freshly prepared dishes * Inexpensive
Cons: No starters/deserts * Don't expect restaurant style service * |

Review: My favourite veggie restaurant in Berlin to date. The main attraction is the really relaxing atmosphere. The comfortable sofas really invite you to shake off the stress of the city and chill out. The staff are very friendly and the music is good whether you are 20 or like me 67. The free wifi speaks for itself. Nearly everyone in here spoke English. The food was good if a little limited in variety. I dont normally like tofu or Italian coffee but I liked both here because the tofu was actually tasty the way they cook it and the waiter gave me a jug of milk and I could mix the coffee as I liked it. We must be difficult customers, because my partner said he didn't want carrot cake and this was the only cake they had. But when it arrived we bothe agreed the cake was delicious! The staff were very helpful and the food was not at all expensive. When we go back to Berlin next year, we shall certainly eat here again.
Pros: relaxing, inexpensive * friendly, tasty food * free wifi
Cons: limited menu * * |

Review: The food is tasty, people are friendly and it's relaxed, sure sure, but I also really like the place simply because it's all vegan! It's such a nice and pleasant feeling to know you can order anything on the menu. Living in Germany, even in a relatively open-minded city like Berlin, this treat is still very rare.
I've had burgers and brunch and all the food has been well made and tasted good. They really do make an effort at trying new and interesting dishes, mixed in with more traditional fare (but a vegan burger can never be wrong!).
Hans Wurst is well worth a visit, whether you live in Berlin or come here to visit.

Review: This was the first vegetarian restaurant i visited while in berlin. I wasn't quite sure who the waitress was as when i walked in the cafe it was completely empty, but there were two girls sitting outside. Eventually one of them came in and offered me a menu and told me to get her from outside when i was ready. I ordered the tofu burger with potato wedges. This added up to about 5 euro.
The meal was delicious but the potato wedges were a bit oversalted. You can taste that everything is fresh and the price is quite reasonable. I topped off my meal with a big vegan cookie. Good but definitely not memorable.
I will probably visit again but with friends because the service was a bit lack luster. I didn't enjoy having to get out of my seat everytime i needed something from the waitress who kept me completely alone just because she was chatting with a friend outside.
but she was still friendly so don't get scared away by that aspect. I recommend going at normal lunch/breakfast hours because in between it's very empty and i think the staff likes to relax during this time :)
also offers a good selection of drinks both alcoholic an non-alcoholic.

Review: I went at lunchtime on a weekday and there was no-one there apart from one staff member, who had music playing at full blast but was otherwise disengaged. The menu was nearly enough to drive me away (too many 'creamy' sauces for a vegan cafe) but I decided to give the tofu burger a try. A mistake! It was a depressing imitation of mainstream fast food. I gave up half-way through. Apparently other people have had positive experiences at Hans Wurst, but it came nowhere near meeting my expectations. A terrible shame given its great location and attractive philosophy, but in my experience there is much better vegan food to be had at many of Berlin's non-vegetarian restaurants. Try Sian, a Vietnamese restaurant on Ryke Str. just minutes from Hans Wurst, and there you'll find a whole array of vegan dishes (including desserts) that are full of flavour, exquisitely presented and genuinely uplifting. Perhaps Hans Wurst is okay for a drink.

Review: First let me say the positives. It's a beautiful little cafe with modern furniture, spotlessly clean, with a friendly staff and great presentation. Also, the other people in the restaurant at the time (4 others sitting near me) received copious portions. I however, ordered a hummus sandwich in which the hummus was scraped on (maybe a tablespoon of hummus total) and it was extremely small. The small organic side salad was gorgeous and I could feel the vitamin hit after eating it. Maybe I made a mistake in going in there and asking if they had a sort of veggie burger, but not made out of tofu? (as tofu was what I had been eating lately) Maybe the chef was peeved that i asked, so they gave me a miniscule sandwich? I don't know. The cake portions of the people sitting next to me were easily three times a normal cake slice and a girl received a huge bowl of soup. I will come here again, but for Euro 4.50 (which is a US 7 dollars) i was disappointed and I didn't become a vegetarian to lose weight. I was really hungry still afterwords. I will come here again however, and hopefully I'll get something really tasty and filling. I'm giving it 3 stars because there's room for improvement but it's a place with great potential, having only been open less than a year.
Suggestion: with 'wurst' in the name they should offer some veggie sausage on the menu, particularly since good veggie sausage is so hard to find in Berlin.
Pros: stylish place-friendly vibe * great food presentation * organic & vegan
Cons: my particular portion was teeny tiny * room for improvement in the cuisine * |

Review: A great place to hang out, chat, eat some German-style vegan food and share a drink. My wife and I both had the tofu burger with chips. The burger would best be described as German homestyle (with sliced bread as opposed a roll, and lots of gherkin!) I enjoyed it. I'd recommend the Lammsbrau bio beer too. The atmosphere is very relaxed, alternative, artsy - reminded me of some of the Fitzroy and Collingwood hangouts in Melbourne. Service was pretty ad hoc the night we were there, but staff were friendly and helpful when called upon. We got talking with a couple of locals and got a free Berlin history lesson! They stock some good reading material (newspapers, zines, etc) too.

Review: I've just arrived back in Berlin and went straight to Hans Wurst, the only fully Vegan, Organic restaurant I can find in Berlin.
I've read some of the reviews here and find it incredible that someone could find fault with this place. Maybe the modern minimalist decor is not to everyone's liking, and the staff are creative types, but hey, that's what makes it so good in a way, it's different to the usual boring German restaurants, overdone with the kitsch decor. The food is first class, and considering it's actually fully organic, I think it's as cheap as anywhere else in the world, especially for a la carte dishes, €6.50 max on the night I went there, they even have potato wedges for €2- and the yummiest veggie burger for only €3.70 maybe the reviewer who thought this was expensive is a very, very, poor student, I think it's ridiculously cheap for such delicious, organic vegan food.
I'm really astonished that someone could give this place a bad rap. Sure the food is slightly more expensive than McDonalds or Subway, but the comparison is ludicrous, good wholesome organic, compared to mush.
I definitely recommend that you try Hans Wurst when you are in Berlin. I was there for the first time in six months this week and the food is even better than before. love the free WiFi, comfy \"old school\" chairs and sofas and the friendly (creative type) staff.
I found the easiest way to get there is the 10 Tram to HusemannStr, or to EberswalderStr U-Bahn and then a five minute stroll to DunckerStr.
This will be my second summer home in Berlin. See you there.
Oh, by the way, the Sunday (all day) brunch is fantastic, lots of choices from only €7-11. How anyone could say this buffet is expensive is beyond me. I have a funny feeling that the opposition must be \"reviewing\", but wait, that can't be true, there is no opposition, Hans Wurst is the only truly vegan restaurant in Berlin. And Organic to boot. Most other veg restaurants have fish, or junk food that you wouldn't feed to a McDonalds employee. :o)
Pros: Relaxed * Delicious * Inexpensive
Cons: No Wholewheat Pizza * Elvis left the building * It's only in Berlin |

Well worth making the extra effort to find it especially on a Sunday with a gorgeous all-u-can-eat vegan buffet for what you want to pay (within a given range) dead helpful staff and a lovely relaxed environment... highly reccomended
Pros: Fabulous all-vegan food * Smart arty decor * Helpful staff
Cons: Bit off-the-beaten-track * * |

Review: You'll get the german food in a vegan choice. Which is cool! I just didn't liked the atmosphere and the ambient, but you might think different about it. Merciless526
