Review: Love the location with lake view. It has a comfortable homey feel and the owners are delightful, friendly and make amazing food! I had the tofu burrito (1/2 which is more than enough for one person) and it was superb in flavor and texture. The beans, rice, corn salsa, and cheese was tastey and the tofu was divine!
Service was fast and kind and we truly appreciated meeting Dre the owner's 9 year old son!
We wish we had a place like Homegrown Organic Eatery where we live in California!
Truly a pleasure to eat here and if we are EVER back in T.C. we will most certainly frequent this diverse and delicious organic food eatery!
The slightly higher prices are completely understandable - only a dollar or two more than non-organic menus and it is worth every dollar to support HEALTHIER and HEART-HAPPIER food made with love.
I have already recommended Homegrown to friends and family!
Pros: Location and diverse menu * Flavor/taste/ORGANIC! * Friendly atmosphere
Cons: * * |

Review: My wife and I visit Traverse City every year and always look forward to dinner at the Homegrown Organic Eatery. My wife is vegan and I am not, but we both find great selections. The owners are very nice. I will always go when we are in town. I would also recommend this eatery to everyone!
Pros: Great tasting * Affordable * Vegan choices

Review: It truly makes me sad to report that Homegrown Organic has changed, and not for the better. Being a seasonal resident, these changes are perhaps more obvious to me. While the owners are lovely and their hearts are in the right place, in my opinion the restaurant is suffering from lack of attention to detail. On a recent visit, I noted that the floors were dirty, the vents built up with dust, the fixtures needed wiping, etc. The general appearance of the restaurant is run down. Service was extremely slow, even though it was mid-afternoon. I watched as a couple ordered two ice cream cones (ice cream is kept in the back for some unfathomable reason, although there is an empty freezer for customers to peer into up front) who waited forever until finally one cone arrived (presented to the wrong customer) and then the other finally appeared minutes later. Both were served bare handed without even a napkin around the cone. We waited appx. 40 minutes for two veggie burgers (standing at the counter as there is no place to sit and wait for take out), so had plenty of time to witness the disarray apparent in the kitchen. Both orders were prepared wrong (mayo and mustard missing, only dry buns), but we were too hungry by then to care. Although the food is healthy, it is expensive for what you get. They used to serve carrot and celery sticks with the burgers, which have disappeared as well. We were so disappointed. With a little help, this eatery could be spruced up, reorganized and turned around.
Pros: Organic Ingredients * Vegetarian & Vegan Options *
Cons: Slow Service * Lack of Cleanliness * Needs Better Food Handling |

Review: Hmmm.... this place is hard for me to write a review on. I do have to note that I have eat here only once, and that I have mixed feelings. I'll say the good stuff first: This is the only restaurant in Traverse City (that I know of) that has vegan cheeses. They have quite a few vegan options, and are sure to cook vegan food separate from any thing that could contaminate it. The employees are very nice, and helpful. Now for the bad: the prices are outrageous, like New York prices. I got a vegan burger, and a smoothie for $15 (the smoothie was $6). The burger that I got was not only not good, but it was straight-up disgusting. I'm talking, so disgusting that even though I got it to go, and when I ate it I was 15 minutes away, I was considering returning it. It was inedible, and it wasn't only me that thought so. To be fair, I think it may have been a fluke, because I have heard other people say that it was decent. The smoothie was pretty good, but not worth $6 when the Dish has far better smoothies for $3. I also tried a little bit of someone's tomato soup that was pretty good too. When I went there I was just wondering to myself why does this place sell meat? I can kind of understand an Organic/Health-food place being vegetarian [and not vegan], but for it to carry meat is just mind-boggling to me. How can one argue that beef is healthy? Yes, it may contain things that are healthy for you, but these are totally outweighed by the negative things. It is refreshing to see another place in Traverse City that has some designated vegan/gluten-free options, but I had a poor experience, and am hesitant to go back due to price. I'm sure I'll end up giving it another go in the future, and when I do I will definitely update my review if my views change.
Pros: Vegan options * organic * friendly
Cons: Price * Taste * meat!!! |

Review: Yes they have vegan pizza with vegan rella and they have lots of other veggie/vegan choices. It is a great concept but it is so expensive. I'm a vegan and a T.C. native and I just simply can't afford it. We got wraps and they were sooo small. I was starving after I finished my food. This type of place could only survive in a place like T.C with a lot of rich tourists coming through to eat there. I cannot afford it unfortunately. Organic or not. I'll just go get organic food at the store and make it myself for a quarter of the price. The owners are sooo nice and the wait staff was excellent though.
Pros: nice waitstaff * interesting atmosphere * vegan options
Cons: price * small portions * not worth the price |

Homemade whole wheat crust & the best vegan cheese we've ever had and my dad came and he could still order his cheeseburger (we can't change some) while my husband & I could eat vegan. We ate here our whole vacation...thanks Home Grown!

Review: My friends & I ate here when we were in Traverse City from Chicago! There was 5 of us & we loved this restaurant! The greatest part is that only 2 of us are vegetarians & we could eat at the same place! There were plenty of options for all of us & it was so fresh & delicious we can't wait to go back.
Pros: young family owned * ORGANIC & on the beach * healthy & yummy for all
Cons: * * |
