Review: My boyfriend and I found Queen of Sheba through the website restaurant.com, where restaurants sell gift certificates at a discounted rate but with certain contingencies (basically like coupons). We were excited to try this restaurant, but had an absolutely horrible experience. When I read other reviews, both on this site and on Urban Spoon, I found others had similarly negative experiences.
As mentioned in other reviews, the place was empty and the service was slow. When the waiter/owner came to take our order, he repeatedly insisted that we order beer and wine. We're not big drinkers, so we declined, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. After several minutes of this, he abruptly asked where we had heard of his restaurant. When I showed him the gift certificate, he became angry. He asked how much we paid for it, and said that people sometimes make photocopies of the certificate (not possible; each coupon has a unique code that's invalidated after the certificate is used - also, I didn't appreciate the insinuation that I was trying to use a fake certificate). He stated that he doesn't get any money for restaurant.com certificates, and implied that he would be losing money because he would still need to bring us food worth the value of the certificate.
Restaurant.com is a service that the restaurant signs up for, and the owner sets the specifications for how much the customer must spend, how much the certificate costs the customer, etc. I don't know all the details, but I do know that it's a website he voluntarily joined, so I'm confused about why he would be angry at us for using the certificate.
Needless to say, the owner was very aggressive and confrontational, and we felt extremely uncomfortable and upset. We ended up leaving before we even ordered our drinks, with nothing but a very bad taste in our mouths. I think it goes without saying that I'll never go to this restaurant again.
Pros: * *
Cons: Owner is rude, pushy, and aggressive * Owner gets mad if gift card is used * Customers seem to be an imposition |

Review: My bf and I went there for dinner a short while ago. As others have said, it is very easy to locate vegetarian and vegan fare on the menu. Unfortunately, while the food was fantastic, it was a long time between the drinks we ordered and the entree, and forget about tracking anyone down to refill your water--even though it is not a large place and we were one of two couples there. Also, the dish I ordered, while very tasty and flavorful, was incredibly hot--it was too much for even my bf, and he *loves* extreme heat--and there was no indication on the menu that it would be spicy. The service was indifferent bordering on surly, as if we were imposing on them. I don't plan to return.
Pros: good food * *
Cons: unfriendly service * can be inedibly spicy * |

Review: I was performing here and decided to eat something before the show. The owner was very helpful in pointing out what was vegan for me. He suggested a vegetarian platter which he said was also vegan. He even offered to spice it up a bit to my liking. As I was eating the greens and bread I saw something move... I looked again and noticed that a nat had gotten into my food. Now, even though I'm a huge germaphobe I didn't through a hissy-fit. After all, it was the summertime, doors were open, and it wasn't like a rodent or cockroach...it was a fly. So I'm thinking harmless mistake. Nobody's fault. I'll just advise and ask for a new plate. I tell the owner's wife and she apologized (not her fault though) and offered to make me a new plate.
About 20 minutes or so later, the owner comes out, carrying the same plate, and asks me to show him the fly!!!! I can NOT express deeply enough my dismay with this method of customer satislacktion (sic)! I thought, surely he was joking. He was not. He proceeded to tell me that he didn't have bugs in his restaurant and that he looked and didn't see any fly, so therefore, no fly was ever there. Everyone at my table saw the little nat and confirmed that fact with him. Yet, he continued to glare at me as if I was trying to single-handedly sabotage his business. At first I tried to explain that I understood his concern (which was basically just pride), but that it was a matter of me getting a fresh, uncrawled upon dish - not a free meal - just a sanitary one. Well, after calling me a liar (in so many words), I became to livid to breathe, let alone eat. I told him to just cancel the whole order; I'll never eat there or recommend them to anyone. Pity too; the first bite was pretty delish.
The wife tried many times to apologize for him. And after my performance he did also come to apologize, but it was 10 miles past too late by then.
Pros: authentic Eritrean/ Ethiopian food * vegan options *
Cons: rude management * smoking is allowed :( * also serves meat |

Review: The food here is amazing and the staff is knowledgeable on what is vegan and will even explain the dishes to you.
However, the service is really slow and short staffed so don't go here if you have a time restraint.
Pros: awesome food * knowledgeable staff *
Cons: takes a long time * * |
