Respond to Review of Joia Kitchen
by One Way Gone Cat
Review: I read the other reviews for this restaurant and thought I would give it a go. I expected, with comments like I was reading here at happycow about them, I was in for a real treat. I couldn't have been more wrong. Being a vegetarian, and kind of an earthey type, I am used to vegetarian restaurants being ran by, and catering to, people like me. People you can picture actually growing a vegetable. When we were in Milan we phoned and made reservations, for the same night. The settings and furniture in the restaurant seemed ok, but a little cold and unfriendly. It was certainly trying to be Milan-fashionable in an ultra-modern way. The food was boring, and so over priced that I was exceptionally taken aback. The real turn-off to this place was that it was like some weird performance to watch the wait staff. I guess to sum up my experience with Joia it is clearly and utterly style over substance. I can't imagine what it is about these types of restaurants that people are attracted to, but I suppose if you like to pay outrageously high prices for average food you may like it. It may be worth it just for the performance of the wait staff, but they didn't seem to enjoy what they're doing.
