Respond to Review of Fair Grounds Coffeehouse

Review: This is the best coffee shop ever! The only place I have found that makes a mocha with soy whipped cream! Awesome baked goods, delicious desserts, wonderful vegan/vegetarian sandwiches. EVERYTHING is vegetarian, with vegan options. Make sure that you ask for vegan cheese or butter when you order. Vegan cheeses made in house, and absolutely delicious. I would live at this place if I could :) Food is made to order, so it is like a regular restaurant wait for food...this is not fast food. It is wholesome, healthy, made to order food.

don't kid yourself thinking this food is "wholesome." the food isn't even organic, i asked what kind of butter or shortening was used, and most of the stuff has trans fats from the margarine or other hydrogenated shortening, it's the most unhealthy kind of fat possible, worse than pure butter even. i stopped eating the food there and just started drinking coffee and having smoothies. just because it's "vegan" doesn't mean its healthy food. be careful.

Wow. Not sure who you spoke to, but we use Earth Balance soy margarine, which is transfat-free and organic. We use Silk soymilk and Rice Dream rice milk. Sure, not everything is organic, but we try where we can afford it. We use organic spinach, organic tempeh, and high quality fake meats (tofurky, boca burger, etc.). And as always, our coffees, espressos and teas are organic. Our cocoa powder is organic, from which we make our own chocolate syrup. We also buy organic greens whenever possible for our soups and tofu scrambles. As far as "fats" go, we make our own fat-free bread here, our sandwiches are fat-free grilled.

Anyway, let's take a look in your kitchen! Let's all just do our best and spread kindness without demanding perfection. The fact that we are struggling as a small business, that we recycle avidly, promote cruelty free eating and shop within the community should give us some credit.

Peace.
