Respond to Review of Karma Waters - Hoi An
Review: We stayed several days in Hoi An with a small group of non-vegans. We ate multiple meals together in this wonderful culinary town at several highly rated Vietnamese style restaurants and had fabulous vegan options at each. So it came as a disappointment to try Karma Waters after reading the rave reviews here. Based on comments here we tried the crispy tofu, which we found very heavy and greasy. And it did not compare to the coconut breaded tofu we had the day prior elsewhere. We also had 2 different salads, including the much discussed spicy vegetables, which were not very flavorful. Again, we had enjoyed amazing veg salads elsewhere that where far superior. And in each case, prices were similar or only slightly higher. I commend them for their commitment to a vegan menu but in a place with such amazing food as Hoi An, they are going to need to step up their game.

Please look at Happy Cow Hoi An list as there are only 9 restaurants who are vegan/ vegetarian. We and perhaps only one other vegan restaurant in Hoi An are the ONLY restaurants who do NOT use MSG, fish sauce, fish oil or any other animal proteins in our food & drinks.
You dinned as a couple once at our restaurant. You picked dishes you read about on Happy Cow and not necessarily those that matched your needs. The last dish you ordered (not mentioned in your Review) was 100% raw vegan "cabbage salad" - this should have been your first dish (eating an oily dish first destroys the taste of subsequent dishes).
Logically our "Crispy Tofu" is deep fried - so where did the comment about oil come from ? if you did not want fried food you could have picked other dishes? you ordered two servings of this dish which is a lot to eat so perhaps this was why you said it was "greasy"? we do not use lard so where did this "greasy" comment come from ?
You ordered "spicy vegetables". When asked by our Manager who served you if you liked spicy food you answered no, then why order spicy vegetables ? without spices it is like a symphony orchestra in which half the orchestra is not allowed to play - of course the dish does not taste correct ! same with the cabbage salad which should be spicy and according to your wish was made without spices.
Different horses for different courses. As a quality vegan restaurant we have plenty of options for veg*ns so please order the dishes to suit your needs and not necessarily what others recommend. Please discuss your needs with our staff.
We are in business to promote and provide a vegan lifestyle. Thanks for your participation !
