Respond to Review of Bio Bistro Spicy Spices
Review: I have to say this is an interestingly worthwhile place located in a wonderful part of this most idyllic city. My first visit was in October 2008 which was very enjoyable but this review is based on our most recent experience in October 2012. It looks like they've had a bit of a makeover giving the place a more modern look but still retaining a traditional feel. Very friendly and welcoming staff, I phoned ahead to see if it was open as when we tried to go in October 2011 it was closed with the owner visiting family in India. The seating is informal and the atmosphere very relaxed. The daily special is €6.50 which consists of 3 different types of curry dishes served over pilau rice or you can pay €8 and get the soup too. Personally, I felt this option was bland with the soup being particularly poor. It was just vegetables boiled in spicy water. I would recommend the chapatis and to ask for the pickle jar for only an extra €0.50. However, it is excellent value and a real treat if you are hungry. Next time I would try asking for one of the dishes from the main menu which look very appealing indeed such as a tofu or aubergine curry. Hot drinks are available as well as tasty organic wine and beer. They also sell a small selection of vegan and vegetarian foodstuffs and groceries. I definitely intend on going back but would probably not have the daily special again as I felt it was just bulk food for the weary and starving traveller.
