Review: I wish we were staying in Paris longer so that we could try more of the delicious looking meals served at Le Portager du Marais. I couldn't help myself from eyeing the other patrons' dishes as they were served. My dining companion and I both began with two of the yummy soups on the menu. I had the pink lentil with star anise and my partner had the French onion. The anise did not overpower the fine textured lentil purée and benefited from a little splash of soy sauce ,which was one of several condiments provided on the table. The onion soup was a real treat,as onion soup is typically made with a rich beef broth and gooey cheese. This vegan version did not disappoint. Both soups were served in very large bowls and were quite satisfying. For our main courses we had stuffed cabbage and a walnut terrine ,of sorts. Both entrees were served with a delightful medley of roasted vegetables. The ample portion of lacy cabbage was stuffed with rice and seitan then served with a nice tomato sauce. The timbale of walnut terrine had a distinctive mushroom flavor and was accented with pine nuts. A flavorful white sauce rounded out the dish and went well with the accompanying dauphinois style potatoes. Overall we had a very nice dinner. The restaurant did become quite crowded and there was only one waitress who's English was not the best and at least half the patrons spoke English which slowed down service. The prices were also a bit on the higher side..although we left with our stomachs quite full. We didn't have room for desserts although they looked and sounded great!
