Respond to Review of Senjo Handmade Gyoza Shop
Review: Having been a bit apprehensive about trying to get by in Japan as a veggie, I have been quite surprised at the variety and choice. Also we have had a local translator at hand to guide us through a myriad of confusing characters in the alphabet. However tonight was my first foray into the culinary world under our own steam. Following the Happy Cow recommendation, we headed for Senjo Handmade Gyoza Shop. What a surprise it was. A small room, divided by a partition, tiny kitchen on one side, and a "corridor" of a room seating 5 or 6 in a line on the other. Two lovely ladies, with enough English to explain the menu to us, presented us with a handcrafted meal of several courses, each with tantalising flavour and aroma. My 2 (meat eating) colleagues shared the same starter dishes, but had a carnivorous option when it came to the dumpling course. An egg fried rice dish and some delicious ginger soup finished off the meal. Apparently the menu continually changes, and we were carefully checked as to our dietary preferences. We felt like spoilt children, each dish being carefully presented to us to enjoy with the enthusiasm of a cook sharing their recipes with us. The staff were as keen to take our picture as we we were to take theirs, and we left after paying a very reasonable price, with a feeling of a satisfied stomach and a contented heart. We will definitely go back!
