Respond to Review of New Natural
Review: This place is a life saver. Most vegetarian restaurants in Rio are closed in the evenings and on Sundays. This place is open till quite late and on Sundays and offers a reasonable spread of totally edible and often tasty options. The variety is better on some days than others and you do need to check with the staff to see which things are vege (and if you are vegan, you will want to learn how to explain that in Portugese as many things do have cheese in them), but usually about half of the buffet is vegetarian and the taste profiles are pretty decent. There are quite a few salad options, things like quinua, brown rice, bean stews, tofu stir-fries, tofu balls in tomato sauce, pastries with various fillings (most of those have some form of cheese in them though), etc. Enough to come away with a full plate that is plenty to fill you up. They even have green juice (try the Popeye) and young coconuts to sip from. The cakes are a bit sweet for our liking but some will appreciate them too no doubt. We always come away feeling energized and good. If only they were organic it would be better... although they do have a natural foods store next door where they sell organic fruits and vegetables so if you have trouble getting enough raw veges you can always buy them and take them home to devour later, as we do. The location is brilliant, right in the heart of Ipanema - perfect if you are a tourist and don't want to trek to the city just for some food. We've been back several nights in a row and will probably keep doing so for the remainder of our stay, not because it's wonderful but because it's the best variety you can get easily when you don't speak the language and can't make special requests in conventional restaurants. For the two of us we end up paying roughly 85~100BR, which is about $50 and that includes drinks. Expensive for other cities but ok for Rio. We're not sure what time they close but it seems to be quite late - probably after 10pm.
