Respond to Review of Gentle Gourmet Cafe
Review: We ate here two times - one time just me and my spouse, the other with a daughter and her companion. The first time was a late lunch. Unlike some other veggie or vegan places we tried in Paris, that run out of food by 2:30 pm and won't have a refill until dinner (if they open for dinner), The Gentle Gourmet had a full menu. Lunch and dinner are practically the same menu. The food was nicely prepared - not the usual veggie stews or vegetable pies, but more gourmet, though my spouse selected the burger for lunch. I had delicately breaded tofu with lightly steamed vegetables, which included the little whole carrots that you see in the markets there. The staff is helpful and pleasant. The food was all very tasty. The portions are quite small, though, especially considering the price. When we came for dinner, I had a dish that was called lasagna from summer squash with cashew ricotta. It turned out to be a cold dish prepared with thinly sliced yellow zucchini with layers of cashew ricotta and cooked cherry tomatoes. Very creative, very tasty, quite small. Other dishes ordered were also very nice. We appreciated the upscale cooking style (not the typical rustic veggie or vegan stuff), the creativity of the dishes, tasty food, etc. But the prices are quite high, so be prepared, and unless you are ready to spend a small fortune, you will not come out stuffed. There was one service mishap - my spouse ordered a soup (cucumber avocado - very nice cold soup) and a main. Everyone else just a main (and then some of us had dessert). They asked if they want everyone's main brought with the soup and we said yes. They did so, but then forgot that my spouse also ordered a main, so it arrived much later. Oh, and the service is quite slow - perhaps a result of the carefully designed food.
