Respond to Review of De Vegetarische Slager - The Vegetarian Butcher
Review: We visited this place shortly before we left Den Haag on the train for London via Brussels, as we wanted something to eat on the journey. About a third of the sandwich menu was vegan. The delicious hot freshly-made sandwiches and pie were hard to resist, as the delicious smell wafted from our bag! The faux meats are made from a plant called lupine, which is grown in the Netherlands (read more about it on their site). As a vegan, I'm in two minds about fake meat, but I have to say that these were the most realistic ones I've ever seen! The flavour is great too (though I can't say it tastes meaty, but it's sure delicious) and the sauces that came with them were great, making two top-notch sandwiches. (Strong onions though, so if you're not fond of onions then ask for them to be left off!) The pie was a Fry's pie, not one of their own, but was still great. Having eaten the last of them here in London the next day, we both have hankerings to get back to Den Haag already! In addition to sandwiches, you could also buy the stuff directly, along with a range of other products. The staff were helpful and friendly, and spoke English perfectly. They don't accept cash - only cards - so bear this in mind when you go!
