Respond to Review of CLOSED: Life Style Veggie
Review: We placed our bets on this place for dinner this evening and unfortunately it was a poor decision. The food took nearly an hour to come out of an overworked and tiny kitchen, which we noticed was situated disturbingly close to the toilet. (One caveat re the slowness though is that it is vegetarian week here, so perhaps they are busier than usual.) When the food did finally straggle out it was not up to our standards, so we left most of it and went home hungry. The seaweed salad was the colour of artificial colouring - the brightest green we have ever seen... certainly not food, that's for sure (we were told it was from Taiwan). The sushi contained some pickles that sported some similarly dubious colours (the brightness of the yellow was quite distinct from the natural takuan colour). The seaweed and tofu soup was literally huge chunks of tofu floating in a clear and largely flavourless broth. Based on the standard of the other selections the word 'GMO' came to mind and we passed on that too. The sambal petai and sweet potato leaves in gravy both tasted relatively ok, but the beans in the sambal were very close to raw and we sensed both dishes were probably prepared using pre-made sauces. Having had a very negative experience recently in Penang in a similar situation (we got quite sick), we were feeling a bit conservative so we grazed a bit and moved on. Service was friendly enough and they do appear to mean well. Special requests are taken, but the knowledge seemed to be lacking so getting a healthy meal there felt to be a case of drawing blood from stone. Be aware that they use MSG based products here, so if you are sensitive to the stuff (as we are) make sure you make this very clear when ordering.
