Respond to Review of Divine Realm Vegie Delight
Review: I've been going to Chanhouse at least once a week for the last couple of months and have found the food to be cheap, plentiful, filling, tasty and the vast majority of it healthy and vegan. There are usually a mixture of tofu and mock meat-based meal options available, so those who find the taste of accurately-textured mock meat weird be reassured that there are always options for you including the incredibly tasty tofu, chickpea and vegetable curry or bitter melon in blackbean sauce. Their mock meats (as far as I can tell mostly gluten-based) however are amongst the best I have tasted in Melbourne, giving more expensive and established restaurants like Enlightened Cuisine and White Lotus a run for their money. Their vege bbq pork, soft vege Hainan chicken and vege pepper steak all stand out and should be tried when available (if it's a Thursday/Friday special best to pre-order by phone as they sometimes sell out!). On availability of vegan food: Due to having so many Vegan customers they have stated on numerous occasions that everything is vegan unless marked as being vegetarian. Only a couple menu items contain egg noodles or eggs, are clearly marked as such and these ingredients are easily replaced upon request (for example their fried koay teow can be made without egg and it is heavenly!). As such I would have to say they are probably one of the if not -the- most vegan-friendly Asian takeaway/restaurant in the CBD. It's great to know I have a place to go to in the city for lunch where I can be assured of finding multiple different vegan options at a very reasonable price served by the friendliest staff ever! Also, how many Asian takeaways put chickpeas in their curries?!?! Here is Chanhouse's Facebook page with food photos and where they announce end of week specials: http://www.facebook.com/#!/chanhouse.healthyvegetarianoption *Compared to other takeaway and many other restaurants and obviously if you stay away from the deep-fried finger food! **Rough guess.
