Review: Our fourth visit to this vegan tropical paradise in April 2014 was The Big One: we got married at the Lodge on the Water Terrace, overlooking the lush hillside, picturesque harbor, and ocean. From our visit to the Lodge in 2011 as a new couple, we both thought to ourselves, This would be a perfect place to get married! And three years later, it was. Our lovely host, Mark, provided us with wonderful wedding-day food, as well as engaging conversation if we sought it. The wedding planner he recommended, Lucille from Grenada Weddings, made our day run smoothly and better than we could have dreamed. We had a steel pan duo, a flowered archway, beautiful bouquets/ button-hole flowers, a great photographer – and, of course, the perfect setting! Mark’s son Mathew even kindly agreed to video the ceremony when I decided last-minute that I wanted a recording. After the ceremony we went to BBC beach for more pictures. Our week leading up to the wedding and the week that followed were just as lovely. We had island tours featuring the Grenada Chocolate Co (lots of amazing vegan chocolate!), delicious vegan (and in my case gluten-free) lunch at Belmont Estates, a fancy pre-wedding dinner at the Calabash (which can accommodate vegan and gluten-free with panache), the spice plantation at Dugaldson Estates, La Grenade and its nutmeg garden (the company makes yummy jams, jellies and syrups from the island’s spices and fruits), and a long walk with our guide Telfour through plantations. He fed us mango, almond, palm kernel, and more straight from the tree! (He is a legend on the island, with good reason – the personable 75-year-old hiking dynamo is fitter than most 20-year-olds and knows everything about, and everyone on, the island – try to keep up!) Some days we just relaxed at the Lodge, pampered with three delicious vegan (and gluten-free) meals per day, reading on terraces with spectacular views, or just sunning down by the lap pool with the occasional swim to cool off. So peaceful and beautiful…! We are so glad we chose the Lodge as our vegan wedding destination. We can’t recommend it enough!!
