Respond to Review of CLOSED: The Lodge
by Sonja and Dirk
Review: We stayed at the Lodge the week before Thanksgiving. It was such a lovely experience that I'm not sure I can even capture it all in a review. The hospitality is exceptional. We were picked up (and dropped off) at the airport by Matthew, Mark's son and whisked up into the mountains. Even though our arrival was after regular dinner hours, Mark had prepared a lovely 3 course meal for us to enjoy, a wonderful way to start our vacation. Breakfast is more continental style with fruit, muesli, and toast, but it's a great way to fill up to begin the day. We even asked Mark to chill our leftover coffee for the next day and he added coffee ice cubes to them the next morning! We also forgot to bring an outlet adapter, but they let us use one of their charge cords for our Kindle as well as charging our camera batteries in a North American outlet in the main house. On our first day, Mark gave us an orientation tour around St. George's and helped us plan our activities for the week as well as pointing out restaurant locations that had vegan options for lunch. I usually like to plan everything ahead of time, but I'm glad I didn't as his recommendations for hiking, an island tour and diving were excellent. We rounded out the week with a day at the beach as well as a snorkel tour of the underwater sculpture park. Based on his advice, we were able to get around with the local bus system with no problems. Grenadians are very friendly and helpful people as well. We truly enjoyed our experiences around the island. We looked forward to a candlelit dinner every evening outside under the porch with cool trade winds or a refreshing rain shower (it was still rainy season) to end our day. There was a lovely soup and salad to start each time followed by a delicious dinner with a different international flair each night. Most desserts were tropical flavored sorbets, but we also had chocolate mousse and a caramelized plantain with sauce. It was so hard to leave as it was so heavenly. Just standing on the patio off our room was breathtaking or just enjoying a cool dip in the pool. The views are amazing and the entire lodge overlooks St. George's. I can't recommend enough a trip to the Lodge. It's everything you could hope for.
