Respond to Review of CLOSED: Mango Mango
Review: I went to this restaurant over a year ago, but I remember the experience well (unfortunately for the wrong reasons). My mom was visiting for the day, and we were looking for a light afternoon meal. We came at an odd hour, and there was only one person working at the counter. Service was slow. The food itself: I ordered the coconut carrot soup, side salad, and got the gluten-free rolls which the waitress assured me were vegan when I asked. The food itself was decent, and beautifully presented. I asked the waitress for the brand of the roll, since it had surprisingly good texture for gluten-free bread (good gluten-free/vegan bread is hard to come by). The next time I visited Whole Foods, I found the bread in the freezer isle... And it wasn't vegan. I was disappointed and upset. I am aware that more mainstream restaurants probably pass off non-vegan food as vegan all the time. But the fact that Mango Mango promotes itself as vegan-friendly (even marks vegan options on the menu), coupled with the fact that the counter girl assured us that the gluten-free roll was also vegan, made this inexcusable. I will not be going back to Mango Mango again. I don't trust any of their "vegan" menu items, and this experience made me think that they are a generally dishonest enterprise. Perhaps I am unfairly judging them, and it was just the mistake of the one server, but I would still rather take my business elsewhere.
