Review: The bad news: Lack of vegan options. There were only 2 vegan selections on the menu. One was an appetizer (the beet "steak") and one was a vegan casado. The vegan casado was $25 for rice, beans, plantains and mixed vegetables. That would have been fine if they were served with a special sauce or prepared in any way that made the dish flavorful or unique. The rice was plain white rice that I can make at home in a microwave, same for the black beans. There was nothing special to the meal and I felt like not only did I waste my money, but I wasted a meal here. The experience was particularly disappointing because the resort is supposed to be the most eco-aware in Manuel Antonio. If management hasn't made the connection between adopting a vegan diet and saving the environment, how ecologically aware can they be? The good: The staff is outstanding. Absolute excellence. Great wine list, by the bottle and by the glass. Charming open-air dining. Magical location. The one thing El Mirador is doing right is their preservation of the wildlife habitat on their grounds. The golf cart ride through the jungle to the restaurant is phenomenal. El Mirador was build around a number of full grown trees which were not cut down and grown "through" the restaurant. Still, if you are vegan, call ahead and ask what vegan dishes are on the menu.
