Respond to Review of CLOSED: Water Drop Teahouse

Review: We were fortunate enough today to stumble upon another great lunch spot in Penang with a healthy and spiritual focus. The very carefully decorated and clean Water Drop exudes a modern zen vibe. In this case it is more than just a vibe though - all profits go to the local Buddhist monasteries (which probably explains why we saw monks walking in and out of the kitchen..!). The menu here is more extensive and local in flavour than similar health minded lunch options in the area, although the meals work on a weekly cycle, with around 4 different options available on any one day, plus a limited number of permanent offerings consisting mainly of side dishes, drinks and desserts. Like most restaurants of this genre, the meals are dominated by rice and noodles and everything else is there to help you get the said down comfortably and pleasantly. We tried a fermented red enzyme noodle soup which was interesting and tasty, together with some sambal petai fried rice (not too oily, just right), a bun filled with some tasty brownish goo (similar feel to dim sum but a different type of bun) and a sesame ball dessert soup. Although not on the menu, they also agreed to fix us a plate of stir fried green veges upon our request, which was a total lifesaver for vege deprived traveling us. We enjoyed the lot and came away feeling uplifted by the chatty and informative staff, whose response to our MSG question (which is inevitably the first thing we ask upon entering any new;y discovered restaurant in Asia these days) was reassuring - a firm chorus of 'no's and lots of smiles. Highly recommended. Oh yes - they close at 5pm. Would like to give them 4.5 carrots but I can't, so 4 it is :)
