Respond to Review of Vishala Restaurant
Review: I have eaten here nearly every week since they opened over 3 years ago, as it's close to home. The kitchen is entirely staffed by women, a little unusual for an Indian restaurant. It's run by the wife of the owner of the attached Indian grocery. The food is served hot, buffet style. It is vegetarian, from the state of Gujarat. Usually has two rice dishes, two soups (sambar and sour yogurt) and four vegetable dishes including dal (lentils) or chole (chickpeas). They also have an assortment of pakoras, chutneys, condiments and at least one dessert, usually mango pudding or something similar. The standout is the bread. They do not have a tandoor oven, but the other breads are really delightful: poori, roti, chapattis, pappads, and a sweet filled roti they bring out hot from the kitchen to table. The servers are spanish speaking and everyone is very friendly. The food is spicy but not too over the top hot. I eat Indian food all over Houston and have seen larger buffet selections, but not better. It is not a vegan restaurant, but has vegan items on the buffet. They always offer the bread with or without butter to order. The price is reasonable and they often have special pricing on Mother's day and their anniversary. It's pretty clean, even in the restrooms and you can see into the kitchen easily. I've never had any "after effects" from the food handling. There are some painted murals and plenty of seating and parking. It's well lit. My only nit to pick is the same repetitive Hindu hymn playing over and over on the TV. Well, it's worth enduring for some good food.
