Respond to Review of New Pioneer Co-op
Review: The Iowa City Coop is still a local favorite. I am a little bit disappointed that their deli has taken a slight hit in terms of selection. The soup and sandwich menus and cold case selections have gone through some changes over the past two years, due no doubt to the rising prices of inputs. Also, the to-go sandwich prices have gotten rather steep of late for the same reason, but they are some of the sandwiches around.... their spicy cashew-butter sandwiches ("Cat on a Hot Tin Roof") are really unique and delicious, as our some of their other veggie options, such as the tofu-avocado "Rock-N-Roll Tofuwich," (my two favorites). And their tofu curry salad is an old stand-by that never disappoints -- a small container of that with some of their in-house baked bread = the perfect lunch imo. It's amazing to me that an area as small as Iowa City/ Coralville can support two full-service organic/ natural food stores with their two locations. FYI the newer and larger Coralville store has a slightly better selection overall, and has ample free parking and plenty of inside seating for enjoying hot bar, soup and sandwich items on site unlike the IC store (the IC store does have three tables just outside the store along the side), so if you have a car, the Coralville store might be a better option. The staff at both locations provides superior customer service, and the customers reciprocate with a loyalty rarely seen these days in the dog-eat-dog, price-conscious world we live in. Oh, one last thing: the cashier will ask for a member number upon check-out, but you do NOT have to have one to shop there.
