Respond to Review of Shang Hai Vegetarian Cuisine
Review: Perhaps my expectations were too high, based on the ratings, and because the previous night I dined at Ever Green in Taipei (which was like a vegetarian Shangri La). But even though Shang Hai was more expensive than Ever Green, it was not even comparable - it was in a much lower class. I felt the food quality at Shang Hai didn't match the price. Although there were lots of dishes available, I actually ate less than usual (and was still hungry) because many of the dishes did not appear very appetizing to me: what wasn't overcooked looked too greasy. I was reminded of heartland American buffets, that offer lots of non-nutritious food and views of super-sized diners. Of course, Shang Hai was nowhere near that bad, but I did feel it was clinging onto an outmoded concept: bigger is not always better. Note: My visit was in August 2010.
