Respond to Review of La Mano Verde
Review: After reading so much rave reviews about this restaurant, i just had to go. Made a reservation for a nice dinner with my girlfriend, since being vegan you don't get to go to much upper scale dinning venues. I don't now if we where just unlucky, but everything but desert was just lacking. We had a three course meal. Starting with the avocado gazpacho, that was just a watery juice that tasted nothing more than rose pepper. The sushi no jiro, which i only chose because it was inspired by the sushi master Jiro, well, another bad choice, the rice was unseasoned, the nori was chewy and filling lacking for the size of the so called sushi, imagine ordering a futomaki and having only 3% of anything but rice. For the main course we had the mushroom risotto and the orange glaze tempeh. I struggled with the risotto, to the point of almost sending it back (which i regret not doing), it tasted good, but the rice was ready undercooked, at every bite i was getting rice glued to my teeth and overall struggling with rice. The tempeh was bland, and served in a bed of overcooked greens, nothing more to write about that. After that the waiter came to take the plates, and seeing i left half the risotto on the plate asked what was wrong, to which i replied the rice was really undercooked, he smiled, went away without even saying "sorry". After all this we where afraid to ask for the dessert, our initial thought was to order the creme brulee, but after all this fiasco the chocolate cake seemed like a safer bet, and so it was, a good really chocolate cake, but that alone won't get me back to the restaurant. For a restaurant playing the upper scale card, there where too many mistakes made, being vegan for over 16 years, this is one of the most disappointing meals i have ever had.
