Review: The food is very tasty. The sandwiches are more like an hors d'oeuvres, rather skinny. It was surprising that a vegan rest. would participate in the Best of Syracuse contest, as the prize was tickets to the Circus.

Hey. This is Joel, one of the co-owners of Strong Hearts. We appreciate your comments and overall positive review. As far as the "skinny" sandwiches go... it is up to the customer to tell us how they would like their sandwich. On our printed menu (which is available for download online or directly in front of the cash register in the cafe), there are over a dozen different things you can add to each sandwich. If you choose not to customize your sandwich, then you may end up with something that is far less than what it could have been. But, that's up to you as everyone likes something different.

Secondly, about participating in the Best of Syracuse contest where one of the prizes were tickets to the circus... we did not nominate ourselves. Several of our customers requested that we be put on the ballot. We have no control over who voted for us or how many times they voted. We did not set the prize for the contest, the Syracuse New Times newspaper did. What were we to do? Reject the award out of some sort of misguided protest against the Syracuse New Times and the circus? And who would this prove a point to? Don't get us wrong. Nick and I are 100% against circuses and the use of animals for entertainment. We have both stood outside of the circus with protest signs many times before when the circus was in town. But to suggest that we actively participated in the contest and somehow condone the ethics behind the circus by being voted the best vegetarian place in Syracuse is not only unfair, but entirely incorrect.
