Review: Even though it's one of the only vegetarian restaurants around, I rarely ever go, and every time I sit down and order at Chuch or ChuChai I wonder why I don't go there all the time. By the time the meal gets started I remember why, and when I see the bill I swear to never return. After a year or two has passed I forget and go back. Last night I happily spent 80 dollars on a meal at another restaurant so why did I feel outraged spending 28 tonight at Chuch? Well, the atmosphere isn't great, the service isn't great, both my appetizer and main course were unimpressive and not generously portioned. I had the appetizer of dumplings and peanut sauce and regretted ordering it from the moment I saw it. And the main course was really blah. And not to mention that at places like Express or Salle a Manger when you spend 80 dollars you're getting a three course meal, a couple of glasses of wine and coffee or tea. The twenty-eight dollars I laid out at Chuch was just for an appetiser, and green curry vegetables with steamed rice. No drinks, no wine, no desert..... It's great that vegetarians have a Thai vegetarian restaurant in Montreal, I just wish the prices made more sense, and that the food was a little more dazzling.
