Respond to Review of Sattvik
Review: The chefs at Sattvik not only know how to cook; they also know how to invent. The menu features plenty of original creations that are a welcome change from the ubiquitous Indian + pseudo-Chinese menu one finds at most Indian restaurants. Vegans will find few options on the heavily paneer-oriented menu, but fortunately the handful of vegan selections are unusual and well-executed. The Hari Kadai with apples was a lovely dish. For vegans (and our lactose-intolerant friends) who enjoy Indian breads such as nan but rarely get a chance to eat them (because it's usually prepared with milk), don't miss the breads here. I had a kulcha that was quite excellent. (I was told the nan and paranthas here are also vegan, but please ask again to be sure.) Despite its location on the top floor of the surreally posh Citiwalk mall, the atmosphere in the restaurant itself was pleasant and relatively tranquil, with mellow Indian classical music instead of the brash pop that ruins the ambience at many comparable restaurants. The only point of complaint is that Sattvik is conspicuously hungry for your money: The menu is pricey (especially the smaller items and drinks add up), and the wait staff are clearly trained to milk customers for as much cash as possible. They weren't too overbearing in their salesmanship, but neither were they subtle, and for me this overt commercialism does detract from an otherwise pleasant experience. If you don't mind spending, though, Sattvik is worth a visit for its refreshingly creative menu.
