Respond to Review of CLOSED: Dang Lai Palace
Review: Okay. So I was very excited about trying out a new kosher vegetarian restaurant in NYC. Unfortunately what i found out was... it isn't so new afterall. The first thing that struck both myself and a close friend (whose favorite restaurant happens to be zen palate) Was that many of dishes have the same unique names (Ala Sweet and sour sensation, Shredded heaven, etc.) and even prices as Zen Palate. We did not rush to judgement though until we tried the food upon which we became certain that it's almost an exact facsimile of Zen Palate. As for the food it was very good but not outstanding. The Mango Halo was pleasant (but nowhere near as good as vp2's Mango Chicken), The vietnamese spicy stir fry was pedestrian, and the Orange Beef was very very good. I would also recommend the Autumn rolls which are unique, tasty and a galaxy away from your average spring roll. All in all The food is good, the atmosphere is pleasant (particularly the little waterfall window when you walk in) and the service is good. My problem with Dang Lai Palace though, as with Zen Palate, is that all the food is good but not great. Nor is it particularly authentic. Nor are the prices particularly great. All in all this place is pretty good, but in a city which has some of the best asian Vegetarian Restaurants in the world, Dang Lai Palace will need to improve to survive.
