Respond to Review of New Age Veggie - Huaihai Zhong
Review: You have to kind of know what you're looking for to find this place. There are two doorways marked 988 Huai Hai Rd (Middle), one is a tea shop and the other is an unremarkable hallway with an elevator at the end. The Restaurant is on the 5th Floor. Its right across the street from where the old Shang Yang Outdoor Market used to be, between Mao Ming and Shang Yang Roads. The decor is garish, but the food is really, really good. Its comfortable and clean which isn't always the case with Chinese Restaurants in China and that's a big plus. I've tried almost everything on the menu and have not been disappointed in any of it. My favorites would have to be the Rock Fish and the Spicy Mashed Potatos. There are a number of Western entree choices as well as Chinese ones and they are also very good. You can also get sandwiches and pizza. I'm not vegan, just vegetarian, so I don't really notice whether its real cheese or if they use egg (which I'm pretty sure they don't) so if that matters to you you'll need to ask. There always seems to be at least one member of the staff who speaks reasonable English, but the menu is pretty self-explanatory. I eat there regularly when I'm in town and highly recommend it even to meat eaters. Its just an all-around good restaurant that happens to not serve meat.
