Subject: 'Kitsap County Bremerton/Silverdale Eating Out'

In my experiences the best places to eat out/shop in Kitsap County:
Most Excellent Chinese food
Tell your server that you are a vegan/vegetarian and they will make up special sauces and broths for you. They feature a really great vegetable and tofu section. Plus they have veggie spring rolls!
(Silverdale and Poulsbo)
Tofu teriyaki. The only place I have found...very yummy, filling, and priced just right.
(E. Bremerton)
Pizza and Italian
Depending on what you like on your pizza, you have many options. Go for the "Pita Pizza." The Roasted Bell Pepper Pesto over linguine is pretty delish as well. Beware their basic basil pesto sauce has parmesan cheese. The Red Bell Pepper and Garlic Artichoke does not contain dairy to my knowledge.
The Minestrone soup (which is excellent) can vary (depending on who you ask, and how busy they are) from being vegan to containing beef broth. I tend to think it is vegan.
(E. Bremerton)
Deli, Sandwiches, etc.
If you are not a vegan, than this is the place for milkshakes. Everything is made up to order, and substations are welcomed. A favorite is "Nick's Special Philly Cheesestake-no meat no cheese," messy and delicous!
REAL smoothies
Several vegan smoothies are on the menu, soy milk can be substituted for cow's milk at no charge. The perfect pick-me up.
Pretty good food. Not as great as some other oriental food places (ie the Panda Inn, but Chinese and Thai are worlds apart). They have a large vegetarian menu selection for Kitsap County. Always inquire about the soup.
(E Bremerton-Fairgrounds area)
Teriyaki and Fish and Chips
Very friendly people. Their yakisoba (sin meat, extra veggies) used to be a favorite. Haven't been in a while. Their fries get cooked with the fish...at least it tastes like it.
While they don't have anything with any real snap for vegans on the menu, the kitchen/server will make something up for you. However, be wary of additional charges for substitutions that may crop up.
CAUTION, and not so great places!!!
The Gourmet Veggie is NOT VEGETARIAN! The cream sauce for some odd reason has chicken stock in it...verify with the clerk before eating! The only true vegetarian pizza is the classic veggie on marinara sauce. Their pesto is laced with parmesan cheese as well.
(A couple of locations)
No true vegan fare except plain ole' spaghetti...and the couple times I've been they've gotten even that wrong and brought out meat sauce.
DON PANCHO'S (Mexican-Silverdale)
Would you like a cheese taco? Food is okay, just sort of forgettable in my book.
They just have a veggie sandwich that is pretty basic. A vegan version of this sandwich would not taste too good. Nice desserts for lacto-ovo vegetarians.
Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Appleebee's seem to have difficulties the vegan thing. Vegetarians fare better. Kitchens seem unable to prepare to anything that hasn't come from headquarters. In Kitsap County your best bet is go eat the local, independent places.

For Vegan/Vegetarian Shopping:
CENTRAL MARKET (in Poulsbo) has the largest bulk food and veggie section. I end up finding many hard to find essentials there. They are bit on the pricey side, but the clerks in the specialty area typically are very helpful. Has the best produce section in town, especially if you go for organic.
FRED MEYER (E Bremerton) to my delight has a sizeable bulk and "natural choices section." This is the only store where I have been able to find vegan frozen dinners. Less expensive than Central Market and you are usually able to purchase most things you need, and the occasional surprise. Carries the only 100% vegan cheese, made by Tofutti.
SAFEWAY (Silverdale) after the remodel a veggie section appeared! Still small, but is the only place I can find Mint Chocolate Chip Tofutti (and they are necessity on a hot day!). Very nice produce section.

I have never been a fan of Albertson's, and I've never set foot in a Red Apple Market.
Even though it is a bit of a drive—Sequim’s SUNNYBROOK FARMS store has a pretty big selection of organic produce, and prepared veggie/vegan stuff. Plan an outing and be sure to pick up some Vegan Cookies by the Alternative Baking Company at SunnyBrook.

We're taking a trip to Bellingham next week and can't find info on where to eat. Also, hoping to go to Leavenworth WA later this summer, and no info. Please have stuff on other cities and tourist areas in WA.
