Vistor Notes:
Subject: 'Places for vegans in Hood River'

Other than Mother's Marketplace, which boasts a lovely vegan deli (closed Saturday) and organic/natural foods store, there are really no veg restaurants in the Hood. However, as a resident for several years now, I can give some ideas of where you can get a good veg meal:
-6th Street Bistro and Lounge at 6th and Oak has a several veg options and has a focus on sustainable products and dishes- I don't usually like Chinese food, but Grace Su's China Gorge at the intersection of State St (by the Hood River bridge) and Hwy 35 has many veg options, no MSG and a even a section of the menu with tempeh dishes (produced by Hood River's very own Turtle Island- home of the Tofurky). They will happily add tempeh to any dish for a small fee and can leave egg off of most dishes as well- Taco Del Mar on Oak St has a vegan burrito- El Tapatio up in The Heights does a good veggie fajita for two with many different vegetables (although it is a little greasy)- Andrew's Pizza on Oak St will make up cheeseless calzones to order (make sure you make it clear you want no cheese at all, including no parmesan)- There are also two Thai wagons that operate in the summer months that have good veg dishes (try the Ginger Tofu at Lampoei's near Mother's Market or the Pad Thai at Thai Winds off of Oak St)- You can get some yummy, reasonably priced Asian fusion vegan dishes at the Global Grill in the River City Saloon- Rosauers Grocery up in The Heights has an excellent and extensive natural foods section, although Mother's produce is much nicer and more local.
