Chapel Hill might be the second most veg-friendly city in NC...next to Asheville. I feel like no matter when I go there no matter restuarant I go to almost I can always find something good to eat that is veg. That Sage Restuarant is very good and pretty much anything you get will be quite tasty.
Chapel Hill...although it is a truew college town is still a good place to be....good food....pretty nice people....fun things to do. I am never unhappy after leaving there.

For those of you who were supporters of EarthFare Grocery Store...THANK YOU THANK YOU For Being So !
Like us, you may ask yourself why did EarthFare close????
While people in Chapel Hill like to think of themselves as progressive, you have to ask yourself, why one of the greatest grocery stores, (the best in Chapel Hill/Carrboro in our opinion) would close.
I believe it's because of people's UNWILLINGNESS TO CHANGE... For those of you who haven't lived here for decades, The Wholefoods in Chapel Hill, Durham, and maybe Raleigh were all once part of a LOCAL group of health food stores called Wellspring... (This explains the penguins theme you see in Wholefoods. That's one thing that was carried over from Wellspring). Many locals still refer to the local Wholefoods as Wellspring. Many of these folks are Die Hard Wellspring Fans... However, you may notice that The Wellspring Atmosphere has turned into a A Corporate Wholefoods Store.
Yes, Wholefoods is great! they have a lot of stuff, and great deals on many things, and Weaver St. is VERY Local!
However, let's talk about Ambiance - Earthfare, which tookover A Southern Season's location, had a delightful eating area, with warm energy, gentle lighting, music on Fridays, wireless internet, and Best of All - they WERE open 24hrs. a day.
Wholefoods has stark lighting that keeps it feeling more corporate and mainstream. The staff at Earthfare, overall, was more friendly, with Zero pretentious employees - very different than many at Wholefoods, and Weaver st.
I appreciate many things about both Weaver St. and Wholefoods, and want to stay focused on the positive here, however, I can't help but feel like there's something wrong with the community when a great, "very supportive of local artisans" Grocery store (EarthFare) is "Ran Out of Town".
I do realize that I, myself, would be better suited to live in Asheville, where Earthfare is based, and has two very thriving locales.
So here's my rant, maybe I'd be better posting this on Craigslist.??
However, for those of you - who are new to the area, and possibly dissenchanted by the way things are here, (this may be helpful, informative, and insightful to you).
Wishing you ALL the best ~

Weaver Street is the best! Their bread is to die for and they have many veggie, vegan, organic items at reasonable prices. Other places in Chapel Hill where you can find good veggie/vegan options: Carrburritos has Tofu Tuesdays and they have great burritos, Tandoor Indian has great vegetarian dishes and will do all that they can to accomodate vegans, Spotted Dog has some yummy chili and soy products, Crazie Mae's has wonderful tofu dogs, fake chicken sandwiches, and soy ice cream (try the vegan mexican chocolate shake!).
