This town and its people do seem to have a more progressive outlook. There are loads of green friendly businesses. The town is entirely surrounded by National Forests, making it a great spot for hiking, mtn biking, kayaking... you name it

Not only does Asheville have several vegetarian restaurants and health food stores, but the overall mindset of the people who live there seems to be a bit more progressive than other places--especially in the South. I am very impressed by their efforts to be more earth-friendly, pet-friendly, etc. We love Asheville, and hope it rubs off on some of its neighbors.

Recently I visited Asheville for a long weekend in February. We spent a day at the Biltmore Estate which I would reccoment to anyone visiting the area..especially this time of year. Granted the gardens are not the most beautiful but they have super discounted ticket prices and it isn't nearly as crowded as any other time of year.
We also ate at Rosetta's Kitchen which I would reccomment to anyone a thousand times over. It was fantastic!!! Defintely try the vegan queso dip and any of the deserts. If you happen to find the pecan brownie pie..so for it...it was heavenly!

We were just there Aug 2005 and had the best breakfast ever! You can even get soysage or soy bacon on the side. don't forget the biscuits and veggie gravy!!!

Melanie's Food Fantasy is now Over Easy Cafe ... new ownership. You can still get great juices and veggie fare, from omelets to sandwiches. Breakfast served all day.
