Subject: 'Jamaica's Cakes in Santa Monica has Vegan Options'

note
There is a small little bakery on Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica called Jamaica's Cakes. Not only do they offer tons of vegan options for custom cakes, they have now started to carry vegan baked goods on a daily basis (including cookies, cup cakes, chocolate mousse cups, and the occasional fruit bar). Their prices are very reasonable and they're friendly. Jamaica's Cakes, 11511 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064, www.jamaicascakes.com

note
Some vegetarian websites list "PF Chang's" chain of American-Chinese restaurants as being vegetarian-friendly, but having tried it for myself last night, I consider it NOT veg-friendly enough! The menu is extensive, but most items contain meat. There is a small section of "vegetarian and sides". I would only eat there again as a last resort (if there's nothing else around). Really, every Chinese restaurant I know offers at least a few vegetable dishes! I don't know why other vegetarian websites list them. At least it's not listed on HappyCow.net.

note
On Main Street on the border of Santa Monican and Venice where all the hip and expensive shops are, there are a couple popular cafes that offer some vegetarian options on their menu (not enough to qualify as veg-friendly on HappyCow, but feasible when in hanging out in the area). One is called Mani's Bakery, and the prices are decent for the area. Mani's offers some vegan baked goods in addition to sandwiches and egg scrambles that for vegetarians (few vegan options). The other place is called Urth Cafe. It's trendier and a bit more pricey but a nice setting. Lots of teas and coffees.

note
There are a few places on the Montana Blvd shopping strip (cross streets between 7th up to 14th St) where you will be able to find some vegetarian meal. For one, you can stop in at the Wild Oats Marketplace (Montana/14th St) that has a deli and salad bar. Also, you can order vegetarian nori rolls and seaweed or tofu salad at Sushi Sho (Montana/12th St). And there's Pradeep's Indian restaurant (Montana/13th St) - it's not pure veg, but they do offer a handful of vegetarian entree mains and some sides. NOTE: there are NO pure vegetarian restaurants on this popular shopping strip.
