Vistor Notes:
Subject: 'Veg Guat'

Eating veg was easier than we thought it would be. Along Calle Santander in Panajachel, there were a couple of veg-friendly places. Las Chinitas was really good, Asian type food. Most people know Cafe Bombay, a strictly veg restaurant. For us, it just wasn't very good. My seitan tacos were a huge pile of cilantro and soy-sauce drenched seitan on a cold tortilla. Husband had a traditional Guat dish-- Pepian?, done veggie. He said it was OK. Service was awful and they added on 18%! We took the leftovers and gave them to a street peddling kid.
There's a great restaurant in Antigua that Lonely Planet lists, but it's way more vegetarian than they indicate. We ate there twice having Seitan cutlets and delicious sides, great sandwiches, etc. It's a must in Antigua. It's called La Escudilla, or the signage might say La Fonda de Calle Real. Anyway it's at #5 Ave Norte 5.
