I also want to note that there is a growing popularity of vegetarian cuisine in the city.

I have to say that I agree with alot of the travel guides about Quebec City as the old part of the city is beautiful. If you have been to Europe, then this area will remind you of European cities. The best hotel in my opinion is the historic Chateau Frontenac. It is on the shore of the St. Lawrence seaway, and is in the old european style of architecture. There is a very nice boardwalk along the hotel, facing the St. Lawrence river. This hotel was also the site of World War II talks between Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin and Mackenzie-King (they proudly display photos in one area of the hotel of this and other personalities of the last century who visited the Chateau Frontenac). One word of advice though, if you are not from an area that has snow: visit in the summertime!!! :) It's very cold in the winter.
