Cloned food controversy - Despite consumer opposition, in January the US government approved the sale of meat and dairy from cloned animals, claiming that the cloned food is safe for human consumption. Further, the US government requires no labeling of the cloned animal products, so consumer would have no idea if what they purchase is from a cloned animal or not. Consumer advocates are concerned with the lack of proof regarding the safety of cloned food as well as issues relating to animal welfare and sustainability. It will likely be years before any cloned food products hit the market due to high costs of cloning. Consumers can avoid food from cloned animals by purchasing certified organic foods, which ban cloned ingredients, and by eating vegan.

Global survey shows Britain is number one fast food nation - BBC World and market research firm Synovate released survey results that showed Britons are more addicted to fast food than any other nation in a 13-country survey of 9,000+ respondents. Forty five percent of UK respondents agreed with the statement 'I like the taste of fast food too much to give it up'. Whereas 44% of Americans agreed with the statement. Although the difference is only 1%, it seems that the United States' place as the world's epicenter of fast food is no longer a given. The study aimed to see how people from different cultures managed food and weight issues and their thoughts on the obesity epidemic. Survey respondents were from United Kingdom, France, Czech Republic, Romania, United States, Canada, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia.
