Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
Ethics are my number one reason for living a vegan lifestyle. Next comes the environmental aspect. Finally weight-loss/maintenance and health (although those are the least important reasons for me to be vegan).
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
HappyCow was a huge help to me in finding vegan restaurants and cafes while on vacation, and I wanted to review them and use the site to explore those closer to my home town!
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
I enjoyed traveling to Europe this Summer (2014), from Vienna to Budapest to Krakow to Warsaw to Berlin to Prague to Munich to Salzburg, back to Vienna, and then back home to Toronto! I've loved traveling in the past, and I particularly enjoyed seeing Turkey and Peru. I absolutely LOVED going to the Galapagos -- it's so wondering connecting with nature and the animals there. I would love to visit India, Thailand, and parts of Africa in the future!
Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
Fruits in general (mangoes, bananas, raspberries, figs, dates, prunes) and veganized desserts :) I love Indian veggie curries as well, as I grew up eating those as a child (and still do to this day!) :)
Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
I loved Skinny Bitch -- it's a must read, if you take crude humour. The China Study is a fabulous read! I went vegan for ethical reasons alone, but over time, I've started to really believe in the fabulous health benefits. I do enjoy fashion, but unfortunately most designers use very cruel materials in their clothing and accessories (fur, leather, silk, wool, etc.). I do read Vogue, but I pay special note to which fabrics are used in each outfit before I go googly-eyed over one. Stella McCartney is a great designer for banning the use of animal skins in her designs, and I hope more will follow suit!
