More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
To be honest, I'd have to call myself "semi-vegetarian," since I usually eat some meat at dinner. So, while I'm very "politically incorrect," I eat what I've found works best for my body, which I believe is wise for everyone. Although I respect and admire those who are into veg*n eating for ethical reasons, I eat what works best for my digestion as well as for what I can do (comparatively little though it is) to save the Earth by eating less high on the food chain.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
I enjoy sharing ideas about good nutrition and getting recipes from others.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
My absolute favorite city in all the U.S. is Santa Fe, New Mexico. I fell in love with it at first sight, a love affair that's lasted for 20 years now. If I could, I'd live there again in a heartbeat, as I spent a little over a year in graduate school there in the latter 1980's.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
I read waaaaay too much, so there's no way I could limit recommendations to 200 words. My favorite vegetarian cookbooks are still Nava Atlas's "Vegetariana", the original "Laurel's Kitchen" and Mollie Katzen's "Enchanted Broccoli Forest" mostly because it's such a lovely book. For raw foods, the recent "Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People" is my stand-by (see my review in the raw food section) as well as Brigitte Mars's "Rawsome!", the best, most readable, all-around reference on raw foodism. Juliano's "Raw-the Uncook Book" is gorgeous, and I may eventually buy it, but it's just too impractical for me to use regularly since my husband can't eat much fiber. I'd like to be 100% vegan raw, but it just doesn't work well for me.
