Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
I had a health problem and was forced to adapt a new lifestyle. Since then I have studied and researched nutrition voraciously. Now that I've had a chance to educate myself I an mortified to think about how I used to eat and how little I used to know about nutrition. Early detection gave me a second chance.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
Are you kidding me? Where else can I go to share this information?

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
I would like to visit Greece, Italy, Spain, England, and France.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
I really enjoy most of raw dishes. I love juicing and making smoothies. Dishes flavored with Mexican spices and sauces are probably my favorite followed by Italian flavored dishes.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
As far as veganism/nutrition, I've read the Boutenko books, Omnivore's Dilemma, In Defense of Food, China Study, The Hundred Year Lie, John Robbins Books, etc. As far as philosophy, I've read Aristotle, Ayn Rand, Ghandi, Harry Browne (How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World), Ron Paul, and Nathaniel Branden.

I am a new vegetarian, who coincidentally also lives in Moorpark. However, being new, I think I am going about it all wrong. I only really know about the mainstream widely used vegtables (corn, broccoli, carrots, etc) and I feel like my ignorance may be cheating me out of some vital nutrition. I tried doing a little off hand research, but there are a lot of fruits and veggies I have never even heard of, much less seen in a supermarket. So I don't know in what quantities I should eat them, how to prepare them, or even where to purchase them. Could you be of any help?
