More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
I've always felt sick at the idea of eating an animal... ever since I was 4 and found out where meat came from. Over the years, as I learned more about the dairy industry and other such industries that exploit and torture animals, I realized being vegetarian wasn't enough. I've been vegan now for nearly nine years, and I am becoming more and more active in the animal rights movement.
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
I recently moved to Japan and I am finding it surprisingly difficult to maintain my vegan health living here. I hope to find other vegans living in Japan, but I'm also just grateful to have this connection to like-minded people around the world. I have never sought out vegan camaraderie before, but I'm finding it more and more difficult to be surrounded by people who just don't get it. It's very frustrating to constantly be judged and told that I'm "too sensitive" or just plain "difficult" simply because I care.
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
I love Ireland... also not the easiest place to follow a vegan diet, but there are more resources in Dublin now than there used to be, and it is a stunningly beautiful country! I would like to visit every little place on Earth. I am especially interested in going to Africa (Ghana is my #1 destination, with Egypt a close 2nd).
Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream (by Temptation... based in Chi-town)
Vegan Peanut Butter Fudge Pie (from The Uncheese Cookbook by Joanne Stepaniak---great book!)
Every Vegan Dish at The Chicago Diner!!!! (If ever you visit Chi-town, it is a must: 3410 N Halsted!!!)
The Chicago Diner Cookbook (can be ordered on their website: http://www.veggiediner.com/)
Raw: The Uncookbook by Juliano (If you have the commitment to go raw, it's a must!)
