More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
I've been Vegetarian since I was four [I'm Vegan now], when I discovered where meat truly came from -- then refused to eat it thereafter. Over time, that reason evolved into other issues such as animal rights, vivisection, health, etc. As I've said in a forum post, I don't see any difference between all living beings beyond aesthetic characteristics. I feel that it’s important to value *all* life, because it’s our *only* life and we should all be able to live harmoniously together and experience life along with of all the wonderful things [thoughts, feelings, memories, etc.] that encompass it.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
Because HappyCow is super-cool! Actually, I've utilized this site for several years, mainly for travel purposes. Anytime I go out of town I like to try different Vegan/Vegetarian restaurants. I wanted to contribute and help other Vegans find good restaurants as well. Oh and did I mention, I *love* helping people...and if I can help people find good food, then yeah, I want to be a part of it!

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
I love to travel and love New York City and Los Angeles (lots of Vegan options!). So far I've been to Chicago (my current residence), New York City, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Seattle, Oklahoma City, St. Louis (my prior residence), Cleveland, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Memphis, Philadelphia, Austin, etc. I would LOVE to go to Germany!!!

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
I'm actually trying to lay off of soy products for now (I save them for the weekend or special occasions). So the main veggies that I love are cauliflower, potatoes, and avocado. As far as Vegan products, Seitan is always nice, Uncle Eddie's Vegan cookies [These can be found at Whole Foods -- but I must warn you, they're addictive-evil!!!], Vegan Lasagna [Found at Whole Foods, hidden away from the regular stuff in the gluten free section. http://www.risingmoon.com/productlist.aspx?catid=Primacotta+Entrees], and Amy's products.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
Skinny Bitch (by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin), Paulo Coelho books (The Alchemist, 11 Minutes, Brida, The Zahir, Veronika Decides To Die, The Witch of Portobello), Malcolm Gladwell books (Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference)

Hey....
Just joined Happy Cow! Seen you around the site so thought I'd check you out. I've been a Vegetarian for a year and a half and am now transitioning into being a Vegan. I was happy to see you recommended Rising Moon Lasagna. I LOVE cheese so I've been looking for some good Vegan cheese products to try. Thanks for the recommendations.

Btw....Uncle Eddie's cookies are def yummy!

veganism
hello. This is the first time I have written to anyone on Happy Cow! Joined like 3 months ago and wrote a review, but that's it........maybe now I will return to this sight more! I love animals and have been a vegetarian on and off for a number of years now, but now I want to go Vegan. Could you give me some helpful advice like what to look for (ingredient wise) when buying groceries, whats good to try, etc....thanks!!
