| About: | Thou shalt not kill. They try to replace the last word with "murder", but it is wrong - it clearly means "if it is not necessary" and killing animals is not necessary, is simply not nice, and when done for enjoyment is morally indefencible. I laugh at David Attenborough's claim that we evolved to be omnivores, we evolved to wage wars is well, so all we need is the next step in our evolution, though I'd prefer a vegetarian Adventist or Jain over a bacon-munching "I am the top predator" evolutionist. I am what I'd like to call a "flexible vegan", i.e. occasionally I would eat something "vegetarian" as an exception (like veggy pies at some places if they clearly don't have cheese/egg filling, but say some butter in the pastry, or I might get enticed by a nice looking cake etc), as it is not a religion, and I can eat anything I want to - I just prefer to eat vegan food. If you put a gun to my head or pay me lots of money, I'll eat meat without fainting, but later I'd rather spit it out. A former lover of pork and cheese, I am a sucker for mock meaty things like sausages, burgers etc, as well as "cheeses", all of which, if done right, prove that you can enjoy conventional food without wasting the fellow animals and the environment, or clogging your arteries. Some purists might be against "processed foods", but if it looks and tastes like meat/fish/dairy, and doesn't have ethical and health issues associated with it, I love it. Any pure veg & raw nice-tasting dishes complement them nicely. |
