Hello,my name is Howard I have been a Vegan for 8yrs.I have recently moved from the London in the UK to the sunny climes of California in Studio City and will be there for the rest of my foreseeable life.

I pratice silent meditation on a daily basis connecting with Divine.I am Black, 6ft 2in,athletic build,compassionate loving person & will be currently starting a Care job for Autistic Adults,as I was a Carer for 13yrs with Autistic children & Adults with challenging behaviour in the UK.

At the moment I have been trying to meet Vegan women for friendship & dating as well as other Vegan men & women.I have been surprised to find out that it has been very difficult to meet Vegan people.The people that I have met didn't return my calls or texts,its quite a disconnected energy here in LA.

I get the feeling however,after using a couple of Veggie dating sites and an email to the Happycow admin,there has been no response.Forgive me for been quite straight & down to the point but this is what I'm experiencing at the moment.Howvever,I still continue to be positive & optimistic as things do change & maybe not having a response is a blessing.

I hope to hear from anybody,if not its still a blessing.

Aw, don't lose heart Howard. I know where you are coming from. It takes time. I don't blame you for wanting to live with other vegans. Keep advertising. Eventually someone will find you. There are a lot more vegan in LA than in my little town up north. I joined a vegan meet up group here. There are a handful of us. As far as dating. Well, I realized I'm a vegan nun. I haven't lost hope. Somewhere out there is a vegan match for you and for me!

Thank you, for responding to my email I really appreciate it JP.I became a Vegan when I was on holiday in Greece,I just didn't want to eat it any more due to smelling the decay of the fish that I had ordered in a restaurant. I feel positive & strong about been a non-meat eater due to my spirituality as well as my own will power/determination, and I accept that when you dont drink,smoke take drugs & try my best to live a positive holistic lifestyle (which is not perfect!!!),it leaves you on a road that not many people will walk with you and thats what I have experienced.

However,I am forever the optimist that I will meet people on the same wave length as well as a partner.When that will happen I dont know,what I do know is that I will keep on being positive & continue to connect with the divine in my meditations to keep me mentally strong & focussed.

I remember feeling so isolated and disconnected after moving and heartily empathize with you. I tried activist groups with no success in connecting with others for friendship. I've met the friends that I have now through word of mouth and asking for people to introduce me to other vegan people. I also enjoy very much frequenting vegan businesses in Seattle. Are there vegan businesses nearby where you could post an ad or tell the proprietors that you want to meet people? That you are new in town and wonder if there are any vegan events going on?

I joined veggie dating to meet other singles in the area but the closest person I've met is from Portland. Finding new friends can be a frustrating process and I wish you the best of luck!

Did you know HappyCow is based in LA? It's very spread out here and it is difficult to connect/find community. There are however a few good groups that you must attend, and that will definitely change your perspective.

Dear Howard,

Welcome to Los Angeles. Welcome also to the odd world of being vegan, vegetarian and the multiple combinations of the above. I know the area from where you now reside, Studio City and understand your dilemma of being around meat eaters; this is a constant issue as we far under number the other people around us and people fear what they don't understand, then make jokes to make them feel better.

I have been a quasi vegetarian to part time vegan since 1980; what helped you to decide to be a vegan 8 years ago?

I find your choice of jobs interesting, a very close gal pal is not only vegan, she works with autistic children while she waits on her intern number following getting her masters as an MFT; another gal pal who lives back east has twins, one of whom is autistic.

I am not in LA anymore, I live in Ventura county which is north of LA and from where you live, about 50-60 miles one way. There are many ways you can approach your searches and hope our communication can bring resolve to your situation.

what a compassionate occupation - that tells so much about you!! you have patience, understanding, compassion and a huge huge heart!!

we actually have some vegan meetup groups here in the L.A. area, sweetie. just get on meetup.com and put in your zip and vegan and you will find them. just an idea that you might want to join one or more of these and then if they are not what you want, then start one of your own!!

about the apartment sharing, i only have a one-bedroom myself, so i can't help you with that. also, i live in the west san fernando valley.
