Is anyone interested in a carpool to various National Parks? I'd love to see them. I have a pass good for 4 people or a carload, depending on the park, so that if someone else can drive, admission is taken care of.
Maybe we could take a few weekend trips to include a couple of parks at a time.

Hi Compassionist!
This is a really wonderful idea. I am definitely extremely interested and have actually been thinking a lot lately about exploring our shared regions beautiful natural areas. Weekend trips could work very well for me too. Which Nat'l Parks or area's are you considering? I do not usually have a car available for such but occasionally I do. Plus our region is often very well served by public transit and if you are open to it, hitch-hiking is often easier when you are on a forest road. Oh, I am in Portland but try to make it to/through Oly often.
Ps. Maybe you would receive more responses by posting in the forums "Travel" section?

Hi Cascadian,
I think daytrips or weekend trips would be great, too. The season for enjoying the parks is nearly over, though, so maybe we could plan to continue to seek a car full of interested people for next summer!
I'm not keen on hitchhiking and will need to get to know people here before taking on even the carpool.
A trip or two to volunteer at an Animal Sanctuary might also be a good way to get to know each other.

Compassionist,
I personally enjoy getting out into nature year round - each season has it's own special charms! No worries about not being into hitching, I enjoy it but of course I realise that it is not something most folks are used to. I'd certainly love to visit that animal sanctuary you showed me the website for! I forgot to save the link - please share it here so I know where to find it. :-)

Hi Cascadian!
Yeah, this particular sanctuary is very near some national and/or state parks!! It would be a great outing to go to the sanctuary and then visit the parks as well. I wonder if the sanctuary would allow a stay-over for a fee. Then the money would go to the expenses of caring for the animals. Ok, here's the link, but make sure you plan to go back with a group from happy cow (including me!)

Compassionist,
Precious Life certainly has a beautiful setting in a nice area that lends itself to exploring. Besides staying at PL or camping, another option that I find very appealing would be staying at one of the nearby hostels, such as: [www.olympichostel.org] - and the town it is in, Port Townsend has a nice food co-op & is generally a pleasant place to explore for a while.

HI Cascadian,
Those are some great choices. I will write to Precious Life to see what they would charge for an overnight. It's on my list of things to do. Id' really like to see my money go to support the animals and vegan outreach, if I can afford it. Did you have a time frame in mind of when you'd like to go? I'm a bit overwhelmed with things to do right now...holiday season, you know How would you like to handle expenses such as gas, if we take a car?

Please let me/us know what you find out from Precious Life. All things considered, spring is when I'd personally likely be most prepared but I am open. As for gas, etc it would probably be ideal if whoever came split costs more or less equally. Bye for now.

Hi,
Precious life has some awesome accommodations for AR people. We could spend some time volunteering and, hopefully, make generous donations to cover our stay. I hope that a couple of my local friends will go with us. I'll ask around. Let's plan for late spring/early summer? Maybe end of may or early June?

I just joined in this group & love to road-trip into the wilderness. I just got back from a month long trip driving a VW Camper Bus from Atlanta to NY state (and back again). I stayed at some fantastic Parks along the way!
If you plan another trip, lemme know. I live in Austin, TX.
HAVE FUN!!! and I'd love to hear about your experiences
