"Vegetable-tarian" (as my nephew calls me)
August 05, 2010 06:11PM
Howdy! My name is Crissy and I'm from Texas. In a HUGE meat-eating state, it can be hard to be veggie but I love the challenge!

I've been a vegetarian for about 8 years now. I chose to do it because my poor body doesn't like meat- red meat and pork especially. My stomach is so much happier, my cholesterol is text book good and I have so much more energy.

It is actually harder eating at home since my BF is a big meat eater. He'd be happy having a steak with a side of porkchops. LOL We are making adjustments but it's been a slow process.

Anyone else have a meat eater significant other? How do YOU cook daily for both of you? Do you find it easy to go to the grocery for items? Just looking for some other takes on an "inter-diet" relationship. smiling bouncing smiley

Hey there welcome to the pasture.

this is going to sound weird but when i went raw i turned my old plates and kitchen utensils to 'unclean' or meatables and i bought brand new plats and kitchen pots and pans for raw clean dishes. it sounds like a lot of work but it really wasn't the meat eaters only ate meat about once a week at most so we usually used all the raw plates. i do that for the bbq too i have one for burgers and then one for veggie things.

Hi Crissy,
The great thing with mine is that since I explained to her why I am vegan, and all my convictions were sound and logical, she decided it would be easier if she also became vegetarian. It wasn't a hard sell, though, her sister is vegetarian as well.
Good luck in Texas... I have a feeling BBQ'd root vegetables would be great... just make sure they have a lot of water with them and you can BBQ/steam them for hours on that low BBQ heat. plus... the smoky flavor it gives them... delicious.

My hubby's a pescatarian and my son is an omnivore.
As I'm the main cook in the house I only ever cook vegan meals, never get any complaints.
The closest I come to cooking meat is chucking a tin of tuna into the pasta sauce after I've dished mine up.

Hi Chrissy,

My Hubbie is a HUGE meat eater and I am a toddler-vegetarian. LOL It's tough cooking for meaties and veggies, but do-able (with a sigh and a smile). Been married for 30 years (next month) and only a vegetarian for a lil over 2 years. Hubbie still doesn't "get it" but he's more tolerant than he used to be. LOL Hang in there! Oh and he actually has tried a few veggie dishes and liked em! Imagine that! ;o)
