So, Hallowe'en and Firework Night are out of the way and the shops are now fully stocked with Christmas fare. Whether you like it or not (and I think it's far too early!), the Christmas season seems to be well and truly upon us.
So - are you making anything this far in advance. Any yummy Christmas Cake recipes to share with us? Your own mince pies?
Last year, I made a Herman cake. I'd never heard of it before but it's a lovely idea. It's too complicated to explain the whole thing but basically there is a starter culture which you make or receive from someone else. You cultivate it for a few days in your kitchen, adding certain ingredients, and it grows in size. Then you split it into about 6 portions, you keep one for yourself and give the other 5 to friends and family. They start the same process with the culture so it is constantly being divided and passed on. After a couple of weeks, it's ready to be added to various other ingredients and you can make a delicious fruit cake with it.
